G2 sensor on A3

Post by boffhead » Thu Feb 08, 2007 5:22 pm

A friend has a problem with his '99 1.8 A3. The engine temperature on instrument cluster is very erratic. I've connected the vag-com and it says the G2 temp sensor has an intermittent fault, but where is it on the engine and would this be the cause?

Any help would be appreciated. Pictures would be great.

My mates A3 haynes manual says there are two temp sensors..."one is clipped into the upper chamber of the coolant distribution housing, bolted to the left-hand end of the cylinder head, whilst the other is screwed inot the left hand end of the radiator.."

Hope that helps!

Isn't it the G62 sensor ? Then it's a 4 pins sensor fitted in a
plastic waterpipe on the cilinderhead.

Hmm. Vag-Com definitely said G2. The problem for me is that there seems to be a few sensors around, or on the radiator. I didn't fancy disconnected each one to bring up different faults in a process of elimination.

Just as well it's not my car ;)
