A4 2.0 SE Cel problem Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add):

Hi,
a friend of mine has a X reg audi 2.0 SE petrol b6.
recently the Cel came on and then straight after the oil level light came on.
i checked the oil level and its fine.
checked with vag and get this error:
Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean

maybe this could be maf? but why the oil level when theres enough oil in there....
it is running a bit rough, so i disconnect the maf and the revs smooth out on tickover... still getting nearly 100g/s from the maf when its connected which is ok for a 130bhp? non turbo car?
so im thinking is the maf ok? so i plug it back in and the engine starts spluttering, and revs are going up/down about 200rpm but the car drives ok! dont want to get a new maf incase its not that as i think its about 80quid for the one for this car

also it has used some water recently like min to max over 2 months driving.

I hate to say it but it could be head gasket. Look for sludge in the oil cap and do a compression test

yeah i thought that too, ill double check today, grrr

just had a look at the car at dinner!
no dirty oil so headgasket should be ok.

the breather hose is completely off and split and the vaccum pipe from throttle body to fuel rail is split and off, so have replaced the pipe, fingers crossed now!

breather is on order

read that these cars use lots of oil some people have been known to put in 1 litre for 5000 miles??
