The new Scooby

I saw a car yesterday that at first glace I thought was an Alfa Romeo or a Seat, but it turned out to be an Impreza. So out of interest I looked on the Subaru website.

OK so it seems that Subaru have done a superficial makeover, but I also noticed that they have given the WRX a 2.5 litre turbo engine. However the specs for the basic model, i.e. peak 230 PS don't look that good. Of course the STI models are shown as 280 PS, but of course that's typical for Jap makers.

So what is this new engine really capable of, both in terms of just remapping the basic WRX engine, and the true performance of the STI?

The guy that bought my S4 had a P1 with 400bhp. I think they can be squeezed to about 500bhp but they have problems with engine ineternals in that cylinder no3 has oil starvation issues.

What did it make of your S4 (straight line pull, not handling)?

The 2.5 motor is a deamon!!! Its potential is truely potent!! the link above to the type-25 site are well know for their 2.5 builds. They do very well in car mag reviews & track time competitions. The torque is apparently awesome. I think they can run over 400 on stock internals.

If they made one in 5 door form and not wide-boy spoilerfied saloon, I'd have one.

Graham - I blasted it from 40mph in 3rd to 6th gear, he said below 100 it felt faster, above and it would have pulled away easily. He did reckon his 2nd would be quicker, then I nailed it from 20mph and he retracted that statement too.
