How many folks have taken the advanced driving test (car or bike) with either ROSPA or IAM?

Looked into IAM ages ago, never got around to it.

Should really, I think I would enjoy the training.

When I have been talking to a traffic officer previously (yeah ok, it wasn't a social event) I was asked if i had done any advanced training. Don't know the reason for this, but I think it would be nice to have been able to say yes.

Done both, failed my bike test but passed the car test. Very good as a refresher but there are far better ways to spend your money and learn far more..........HPC wet handling course, some good tuition on a track with lots of runoff, Etc. took my IAM to reduce my insurance, then was informed by AXA that they did not recognise it as a way to reduce premium.

In my opinion IAM or ROSPA advanced test is a waste of time. If your interested in learning about the art of driving i agree with simple 1 HPC by far is the better option, tailored to suite both your skills and requirements.

Perhaps doing IAM means you will have a piece of paper you could accidently show the policeman if you get pulled over for speeding? (Other than the rectangular one with our Sovereign's face on it)

Exactly. I wonder if this ties inwith my comments above. I believe instructors tend to be ex serving officers anyway?

I have not even looked into this...

I thought if you ever got done for speeding... the first time you can avoid getting points by doing the advanced course?

Advanced driving courses are more about observation rather than driving 'skill' itself and dont teach you fast handling etc. (you may get a small amount off your insurance but the cops certainly aren't going to let you off!!)iIf you want to be a faster driver then trackdays and instruction is your way forward or days like SImple has mentioned. If on the other hand you want to be a more 'aware' person on the road then my advise would be to go and sit your bike test, even if you never intend to own a bike after you have done it. They are very strict on observational skill and will fail you very easily for not doing your life savers, even for simple things like not doing a life saver when you move to the middle of the road to pass parked car. It also gives you a mucvh greatre appreciation for the bikers out on our streets..

Spot on, as normal, Gav.

YES!, Any numpty can pass the car test (I did!!), but you have to be 'special', before being allowed out on the road , on 2 wheels, so you then have to pay(Dearly) for the 'Privelage' of setting yourself up as a 'TARGET' for the "Sorry, I Didn't see you" brigade

Trident T160 (almost same age as me)

Hope this make sensibublbe????? (Family Birthday, 2day) :rocker: :rocker: :rocker: :rocker: :rocker: :rocker:
