Gents,
I've just purchased a private plate and currently waiting for the paperwork, etc to come through.
One thing I hadn't thought about until now is what happens with my MOT certificate. It shows my existing registration but I presume when my car tax reminder comes through in a few months time it will show my new registration. Is it a simple case of going down to the post office to renew my car tax with v5 form in hand as well as the existing MOT to prove that the cars VIN number is the same? Do I have to get the MOT certificate re-issued (if so how) or do I have to get it retested just to get an MOTcertificate with the correct registration on it?
Any advice welcome as quite clearly I don't have a clue.
Thanks in advance.
Rich.
New Car Reg - what happens with MOT certificate?
Hey Rich,
When you get the assigment document through you will have to go to the local DVLA office (not a post office). Look on the DVLA website for your nearest office. You have to take your MOT certificate, tax disc and V5 with the assignment and they will do everything for you. They amend the MOT certificate and stamp it for authenticity as give you a new tax disc. The new V5 will come through the post.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Darren

Cheers for the info Dazzer … I actually bought my plate from an internet car reg company. I've already sent my V5 form & copy of tax disc off to them so I guess it's getting processed as we speak. Annoyingly they didn't mention anything about the tax disc so I guess I'm going to have to pop down to my local DVLA office when my new reg and v5 form turn up … such is life.
