Ever heard of this before?

Post by dazzer » Mon Mar 06, 2006 9:46 pm

I took my Wife's car up to the local garage today for a 40K service. It's a Ford Ka. I received a call at midday to say thet the spark plugs were rusted and they couldn't be taken out without causing damage to the threads - in other words thay took the plugs out and there is now damage to the threads. End reult being they would have to take the head off and retap the threads.

Should I really expect this to happen from a seasoned mechanic??

Cheers

Ford = Found Off Road Dead / Fix Once, Repair Daily

Sell it, they're going for a pretty penny and like hot cakes.

LOL did that help Darren ?

I'd call a local Ford dealer and appeal to their better nature. It can happen, sure, but how common and how easy to fix the dealer should be able to tell you if you find a decent contact like the service manager or a decent technician.

How long have the plugs been in ? 40k miles but is that since new ?

Thanks for the sympathy vote Phil. It's bas enough my S4 and A4 having to the share the drive with the bad impersonation of a car.

They are the orginal plugs and the car is 6.5 years old. According to the history - if you can believe such things - then the plugs were out at 30K to check the gaps.

I haven't had a problem with the garage before (one man band), and he hasn't to the best of my knowledge and instinct invented work. I was just a bit concerned that he lost the plot this time and was a bit kackhanded.
