Hands on? or Hand off?

Just a quicky....
Do you maintain/service the car yourself?
Or do you spend money on serviceing and labour?
Or a bit of both? Depends on the job or whether you have the time/Cash.
Quite happy changing an air filter.... but a clutch?... No ta...
I historically have always done all my serviceing and still do. Including my S4, the only difference with that is I also want to keep the FASH. So I class my self as a hands on kind of guy.
Ie if a bush needs changed I'll probably do it myself, its serviceing but not part of service history.
Thoughts??
Mark

I'll do brakes, suspension etc, changing oil no worries.

no probs with the smaller stuff, but have neither the experience, the space, the tools, or the balls to tackle anything to big!!

I change the oil every 5k and also replace servicable items, plus air filter etc. Will also carry our repairs if i have the time.
It only goes to the dealer every 10k to keep the service history up to date.

I generally try to do as much as I can on mine. If you do it yourself you know it has been done right and no one is going to take as much care over your car as yourself.
Anything big will get booked in to my local independant who I know and trust completely. I like to talk to the mechanic who is actually going to do the work.
I've heard and seen too many horror stories to let a dealer be left with my car.

I generally do anything and everything myself although with the S4 i intend to get routine servicing done by a stealer to keep the history current

Bit of a strange poll, but I do like these polls so I'm up for it!
I dont fit into any of the 3 options so I had to go for "swing both ways"!
The problem is that my brain says I want to do it, but I'm "mechanically challenged" - but I do have a go, but certainly wouldnt trust myself anywhere near the brakes...!

Work in engineering and have a nifty set of tools and garage i am pretty much the same as Quantum John, but a couple of local garages one a specialist are so cheap and careful that i let them do some work for me.
Back to Audi for an expensive oil change and lookover to keep the FSH but the prices of our cars now FSH will not be worth that much shortly,I keep every single bill which impresses buyers when you come to move on.
I sold my last toy, 944 Turbo S with an A4 folder stacked with bills and history swung the deal no end to the point of "name your price! "
Cheers Jim.

Crikey....I was chuffed with changing my own car battery. I think I'm lazy, I kinda know if I had the time and patience I could probably do a lot myself, and really in the industry I work in I should be doing all this myself...but...I cant help thinking when I was 8 or 9 and I took apart everything to see how it worked, especially my Dads radio....only to put it back together again and when i had I still had a load of bits and bobs left over??? Guess what.....it didn’t work!!

I'm quite capable of doing most work (been working on cars, stripping engines etc since I was about 15 - prior to that I was assisting my dad in such work). However, as I grow older, the time/inclination diminishes. So, these days, I tend to leave a lot of the jobs to the dealer.
I guess that the complexity of modern cars doesn't help - the first car engine I removed/stripped on my own (a Fiat 500 - aircooled twin 499cc) was a great deal simpler than the V8 twin turbo, fuel-injected .... etc. lump in the RS6.
The last engine I removed/stripped would have been the 3L V6 in my old Scimitar.
