Car Mileage

Does anyone know how the law stands if I wanted to change the odometer reading on my car?

Reason behind this is that I am getting a lower mileage engine put in along with dashboard/odometer etc and would like to the reading to reflect the actual engine as opposed to the car itself.

Am I right in thinking that its ok to do this, as long as if I sell the car I make the buyer aware of the changes that have been made?

Cheers
Rich

From what I know, it is indeed acceptable to do this. Under UK law it is the owner's responsibility to ensure that when selling a vehicle, the potential buyer is aware of the true vehicle mileage. Failure to do so is fraud under the trade descriptions act. So if a buyer is willing to take this responsbility from you the you are OK.

The thing you have to watch is that the Government is still discussing making mileage recording on the registration document mandatory. If this happens then it could cause problems.
