Last night I had a strange experience with an M3 driven by possibly one of the most deranged drivers on the road!

I was on my way out, on the M4, and was running a bit late. So I decided to go about 95.

After a little while I caught up with an M3 going at about 90 in the overtaking lane. I just sat behind it, waiting for him to move over (I don't tend to be aggressive in such situations).

He didn't, instead he slowed down to about 80.

Although I was irritated, I just waiting patiently for his next move, although I had a very good idea what it was. I couldn't resist, so I changed down to 5th.

As expected he put his foot down, and so did I. I was not at full acceleration but kept with him (and gained a little) until about 130. At this point I broke off acceleration, deciding that I had already been foolish enough joining in with his game.

I moved over to the middle lane and he stayed in the overtaking lane. We both slowed down as there was a police car on the hard shoulder ahead (there for an accident or a breakdown). After that I saw that the left lane was empty so I moved into it. The M3 stayed in the overtaking lane. We were doing about 80 now.

I wasn't sure what to do next. I wanted to get back up to 95 because I was late, but I didn't really want to play any more games with the M3.

The situation wass resolved when I saw a Clio coming up fast behind us in the middle lane. So I waited to see...

The M3 stayed in the overtaking lane so the Clio (didn't look anything special) move over too and came up behind it. I guess it was doing 90-95. The M3 accelerated so I did too. I reached 95 and decided to stay there, and the two cars started moving away, certainly doing over 100. The M3 stayed where it was even though there was no traffic in the other lanes, with the Clio on it's bumper.

Not long after I saw a Merc coming up even faster behind. I guess it was doing 110-120. As it passed I saw it was a 230 Kompressor. It caught up with the Clio and the 3 cars continued on their way, close together, doing over 100 in the overtaking lane, with the M3 at the front. I left the M4 not long after.

I just wonder at the mentality of that M3 driver...

A normal M3 driver believing he is king of the road and way above all others.

I think the title of your post says it all

From my experiences *most* of the Beemer drivers will move over same as *most* of the others do. You always get the odd one though.
I had a guy in a 320i this morning matching my pace so I couldn't overtake him (I was in my daily shed). I just bided my time until he did move over and I could creep by, and then I boxed him in behind a slower moving car in his lane

I think you did the right thing mate in not trying to undertake him. Things like this can so easily go pear shaped...

Yep lets stereotype all drivers who drive a particular model car!!! Very logical so presumably every time I change cars my whole way of driving changes......jeez:roll:

Maybe I am missing something, if he was matching your pace why did you want to overtake him ? And surely your action is no better than that of the BMW driver. Now my Mummy always told me something about two wrongs ...

Well Carps, I had caught him up, maybe with a 5 to 10 mph speed difference.
As I pulled out to overtake him and carry on at the same pace he sped upand held me on his rear quarter. Each car we caught up that was in his lane he would speed up sufficiently to pull in front of me then pull over and drop back to position. If I slowed and pulled in behind him he would slow too, causing me to slow even more.

I do over 500 miles a week for work, so often come across a t055er, but strangely the more miles I do the more mellow I get about things like this. Its just not worth it.

As for my action being no better than his, well, yes I was exceeding the limit, but if someone catches me and is clearly travelling faster I'll let them go by. I might tag on the back of them but not try to keep them behind me.

No matter anyway. It all adds to the entertainment on an otherwise boring trip

There are so many handjobs on the road, it is best to just ignore them, <beep> man in his music powered Corsa trying to push you down the motorway in an RS4 doing 85 mph, I just let them go, you always catch them and pass them on a long uphill stretch anyway. Now days Officer Dribble will happily do you for racing as soon as anything else...............
