Just finished reading this months evo (April), in the normal fashion (i.e. not from front to back) and came across an article called 'Quattro Revisions' (page 21).
Basically it indicates that AUDI may be making some major changes to the quattro system to resolve the age old 'lack of steering feel' that is always reported against every Audi review.
Save repeating the article, I'll leave you to read it for yourselves, however does anyone now any details about this?

Quattro revisions - Torsen type C (T3) diff?
There are several types of Torsen diff, Audi use a Type B or T2 diff at present, but the newest diff (the T3) allows for a non-50/50 nominal torque split and is also easier to package - for starters it's smaller.
It's possible that by using T3 diffs, Audi could repackage the engine further backwards, or move the front wheels further forward to improve weight balance. A 60/40 rearward-biased split should be possible as well using the T3. Take a look http://www.torsen.com/products/T-3.htm
As a slightly related aside, I notice that ZF's new 6 speed autos are designed for RWD/AWD instead of the old 5 speed boxes FWD/AWD layouts. I wonder if this will mean the end of traditional auto FWD Audi in favour of DSG and Multitronic - using the ZF boxes without AWD would imply a need to be RWD, which I don't see happening.

I remember reading this article and relishing the possibility of more rear biased models in future. I'd be great to hear the motoring press hail new performance Audi's as "drivers cars".
Its obvious that Audi are not comfortable with the negative fedback the company has received about many models and hopefully are being forced to make some wholesale changes.
