How to afford a Lamborghini Gallardo

Post by DuncS3 » Wed Jan 14, 2004 2:15 pm

I dont know how many of you guys read Autocar, but one of the journalists, Chris Harris, has had a new Gallardo on order which he picked up at Xmas. There were many letters and internet threads on how could he afford a Gallardo, and in this weeks issue he tells us how:

List Price £120K
£35K deposit
£1000 per month for 3 years

Guaranteed future value at end of three years

car is currently worth £135K

So there you go, not too bad after all!

These finance plans certainly help when buying these cars as long as you dont want to actually own it!!! My guess is he will be paying about £13K+ in interest charges and with a residual after 3 years of about £62K

They reckon it should still be worth list price after a year, so he could run it for a year and not be to out of pocket.

Maybe it will be worth list price after a year to the dealer. Dont forget that Audi and Lambo are breeding these very limited market cars out as fast as baby rabbits now.

They were producing 5 a day at Quattro Gmbh. Production ceases early this year IIRC and will be switched to a new factory at Lambo in Italy, it was being completed while we were in Germany (Nov 03).
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

I would love to know just how (un?) competitive the finance really is...£87k over 3 years for a £1k monthly payment doesn't sound right to me (even with a £35k deposit)

Bet the whole deal rests on the residual valuation...

Either way I very jealous and I'd have one like a shot if it wasn't for the Mrs and the cost of improving/updating our house

Didnt realise they were banging as many as five a day out just at Quattro, but I understood that production was running concurrently at Sant Agata. So thats an absolute minimum (if the Italians get their fingers out) of ten cars a day then, possibly more!!

The demand for supply is going to be met rapidly. Thats mass production for a "supercar". Hope they have enough buyers. Guess they know what they're doing though.

Yes it does its a PCP type plan (maybe even business rates for Autocar?)

Sorry Tim and Riz the Gallardo post was a little wind up over at www.bm3w.co.uk

I did have one on order from about May of last year for a February '04 delivery but it all hinged on the house we looking to buy. If the house deal didn't happen I would have had the Gallardo in about 3 weeks time...but it did ( sort of..) so it was sold on

BTW the finance deal Lambo offered me at the time was about 2.0% worse than the Lombard deal I had looked at

In a year from now when things are settled down I'll have a look again and see how the funds are looking

Well I pop over every now and then to have a little look in and see how my CSL's are doing, and knowing a little of the history of you and yours I was rather surprised with the Gallardo news.

Damn. Thought you were going to tell me how I could afford one too
