Do Not Buy This B7 RS4 - FS Performance

Post by jonno_c » Fri May 27, 2022 9:09 am

A friend from a forum has recently had a very bad experience with FS Performance, regarding this car:

https://www.fsperformance.co.uk/used-ca ... 5205930156 (it's back up for sale now)

"As you can imagine, I felt pretty ill.

I drove it (f*cking slowly) to my local Audi dealer to see if they could inspect it, mainly so I'd have paperwork to back up these pictures for the rejection process. All fine, Audi booked it in and I drove home.

On the way home, approaching a roundabout at ~35mph the brake pedal hit the floor, tried pumping it, nothing. There were two cars ahead so I banged it into first and let the clutch up, then pulled the handbrake almost vertical. Luckily I stopped with about a car length to go before rear-ending an Astra.

Arriving back home I noticed that the hard line, where it joins the flexi on the NSF had split. Cause? Corrosion. Weird that.

Anyway, the short version is I chased FS Performance for 3 days before any response was given, when I did get a response it was very off the cuff and hardly proactive. Almost like it was my fault. After much back and forth with the "MD" they agreed to waive the usage charge of £1/mile (I did 384 miles total inc 180 back from the dealer!) as long as I paid £350 to have the car recovered. In the ned to get it sorted I paid this but I'll be taking them to court for the £350 plus costs, damages, loss of earnings etc. Tbh I may even press charges for misconduct. I've also raised a case with the DVSA in regard to the blatantly dodgy MOT.

ps. I probably should have had the car fully inspected, I get that. The clean MOT and good rep from the dealer led me down the path and I got carried away. My fault and not one I'll be making again."

Just a word of warning to anyone looking to buy one - swerve this one.

It really does beggar belief that such a dealer would want to sell a car in this condition. They are liable for the first 6 months for any car they sell regardless of whether you bough a warranty. In this condition they can't possibly say it's merchantable quality and fit for purpose. Therefore with exiting issues known, they clearly have no intention of honouring their commitment to a buyer.

It really does. Let's hope they've done the work needed to bring it back to roadworthy state.
However I can't imagine they have ; (

That’s some pretty horrendous corrosion-there is ALWAYS a good case for getting a car up on a ramp and having a good look with a powerful light. Another tip I was told was to look from the bottom upwards at the paintwork-if it’s been resprayed it will appear wavy and therefore one to ask questions about.
A guy I know had an identical B9 RS5 to mine that he sourced from a performance car dealer-mine was from main dealer. Getting the Milltek on the fitter said that the u det side of mine was really clean compared to his and his view was it was a clocked car.
Every car dealer (including main dealers) will blag and have cars with hidden dramas that they try and shift on. If they realise they’ve been sold a lemon they’ll want shot of it unless they punt it out to auction and possibly make a loss.
Know your rights and chase them hard.

"Maintained regardless of cost" should read "Maintained at no cost!"

Shocking condition, even for the age - and they want how much for it?!?

If you do take them to court, I'd get the MOT place looked into too as there's no way that wouldn't appear on the fail section, never mind listed as advisories.

What is the reg?

RS04 LEO is the current reg, if they try and disguise it by putting that on retention, the original is SV56 FVX

I can see why you chose it as it looks great in the pics and there are lots of them as well-normally a good sign.
This is a proper lesson and a ‘Tale Of Two Cars’-the nice clean looking one on top and the horror story underneath.
Every lemon I ever bought (only few) I didn’t look properly (or at all) underneath. Nowadays I insist the dealer get it up on a ramp so you can see. If they refuse that’s telling and a massive red flag.
Me and the missus test drove an mini before and asked to get it up on a ramp-showed a horrendous oil leak and the tyres had canvas showing on the inside-death trap and we’d just driven it…..
Dealer had nowhere to go and admitted he’d bought a lemon and said ‘well that’s going into auction’.
One week later-car still up for sale.
Dodgy Dealers are everywhere.

Yeah - sorry this wasn't me - however as you say - it's nice and clean from the outside, so you would never expect to see something that looks like it's been sat at the bottom of the North Sea.

Has anyone got any ideas how it could have got that bad? Salt corrosion perhaps from being based near water/the sea? The rest of the car looks in good order-whole thing stinks of dodginess.
Truly horrific.

Just to confirm this car is still for sale, and has not been rectified underneath by FS Performance.

FS performance ridiculed the guy who bought it, then nearly killed himself with the brakes failing. FS said, "He's not quite up for RS4 ownership."

Avoid avoid avoid.

Just to let you all know, this car, RS04 LEO, was sold again by FS Performance recently and has been rejected again by the new owner due to the various issues, not to mention the rust underneath!

They have slapped Lanoguard all over the bottom of the car to cover the rust, and supposedly then put it through on a dodgy MOT.

Avoid RS04 LEO if you're in the market for a B7.
