Bracket fabrication help

Post by mikep99 » Fri Aug 21, 2020 12:47 pm

Hi All,

Hoping someone who has knowledge/experience in making brackets maybe able to help...

I'm going to knock up a simple bracket to hold 2 resistors for my LED DRLs as I'm not keen on installing them within the headlight unit due to the heat.

Now, my question is - what would be a recommended material (steel/aluminium...) & thickness to do this?
There is no significant weight to hold (2 resistors).
Has to be bendable by me, at home with a vice and other tools, but stiff enough not to flap about when installed.
It will be mounted to an existing bracket in the engine bay.

Many thanks for any suggestions

Mike

Always Aluminium. All heat sinks will be made of Alu. Thickness shouldn't be too thick as it will retain heat longer whereas a thinner section will be dissipate heat faster. Well thats my logic

Literally any L shape bracket from B&Q. Find the size you need. Paint black. Job done. Or if you really want to bend your own, again B&Q have metal strips. 2mm ally will suffice.

Cheers chaps.
Made up a template earlier so I'll get some aluminium ordered.
See how I get on :)

Thanks
