Choices choices

Post by stevo55 » Sun Mar 08, 2020 7:39 pm

Having been away from a ‘proper’ car for around 8 months now the itch is getting worse. Having said that having the extra ££ every month has been glorious!
Back to RS though but am torn:
RS6/7 or
RS5/4

RS6/7 pros are the savage delivery, noise looks etc plus it’s a legendary motor. Cons are it’s an older platform and tech from 2013. Still holding their value though
RS5 is much newer tech, lighter and probably better handling I imagine. Cons are noise (have heard a few and they’re not exactly raucous) and outright pace.
Price wise they’re on a par now (ish). The fact that RS5’s have dropped a fair bit in 2-3 years is maybe telling of what residuals are like?
Any thoughts? I’ll have to go test drive some (is the RS6 PE that different from the ‘normal’ one?) to judge but there will be some current and former owners on here who may have some petals of wisdom.

Hi Steve,
I tested all that you mentioned and my decision came down to wanting/needing more space so the Coupes were out for me. I have a 2017 RS6 Performance and apart from dreading multi storey car parks, potholes and some width restrictions I absolutely love it. The only thing leaning me towards the B9 RS4 was the tech but that didn't overcome the look of it for me. Really don't like any of the wheel options on the new models and the sound is a bit....meh. Still a very very nice, quick car to drive but a bit soulless for me. Regarding Standard vs PE there isn't a great deal of difference but wouldn't you want the best of the best? You'll only be thinking 'if only' if you don't go down the Performance route. That's the way my pea brain works anyway. As you say, test drive them thoroughly and make your decision from there. One of them may surprise you.

Had my PE for 6 months and will eventually need the smile surgically removed from my face.
Shane

Thanks Shaney all good points and yes the PE is definitely the sweet spot. With the ability to get Apple Car Play that makes up for a lot of the tech deficit (virtual dash notwithstanding).
Hopefully going to rest drive an RS5 this week and go from there. PE’s still holding their value quite well which is good from a residual point I guess.

Ok so my mind was made up sooner than I thought!
Was convinced it was going to be an RS6 but saw this one at Finchley Road Audi in London and had to check it out. Luckily it was next to an RS6 PE and the shocker for me was I preferred the RS5. One test drive later I was sold.
New was well over £80k and now at just over 2 years old. Pretty much every option ticked and the entire black pack looks epic. Previous owner put £2k worth of PPF on as well which is nice plus low miles +++
Worked a great deal with Audi and pick her up Monday. Really chuffed. It’s not as savage as the 6 and the exhaust note will need some sorting but apart from that it’s (imo) the right car for me. No regrets (so far).

Very nice Stevo,
Having the wheels powder coated in black gets rid of the 'Hot Wheels' look too.

Very nice, enjoy

Question. Currently have my RS4 but thinking of going back to an RS6, albeit a C7 opposed to my old C5. Have been told that the PEs service intervals are shorter than standard? Can anyone confirm any differences with the PEs? Same person mentioned spark plugs?

TIA

Mine's on the Flex Service Plan rather than fixed. It was serviced last July and my next service is due in 6000 miles which will be around 7 months time based on my mileage. Lots of people on here change their oil more regularly than that though.

Service is the same as far as I know except spark plugs on the PE are due every 2 years rather than 4 years on non-PE.

Thanks Mike

I guess largely irrelevant then. Of course, could just have MRC breathe over a standard edition. Just got to find the right spec. now

Thanks again guys
