Would You Buy a CAT S Write Off

Post by ShaneyB » Tue Jan 28, 2020 12:40 pm

Hi all,
Anyone ever purchased a CAT S car before. Found a great little car for my son's fist car but says it's CAT S.

I would normally steer a mile clear BUT if I had a a small bang in my car that could be repaired legally and roadworthy I would still drive it no problem.

This is from uSwitch:

Category N: Can be repaired following non-structural damage. You can use the vehicle again if it’s repaired to a roadworthy condition. This replaced category C in October 2017.

Category S: Can be repaired following structural damage. You can use the vehicle again if it’s repaired to a roadworthy condition. This replaced category D in October 2017.

Because some category C, D, S and N cars may have received minor damage that has been repaired at a cost to the owner (not the insurer), these types of write-offs commonly find their way to the used car market.

HPI says - This vehicle has not been reported stolen, scrapped, exported or flagged as un-roadworthy.

What do you think??

Sorry guys. Please don't waste time on this. I won't buy a CAT S.

Cheers

Agreed that on low value cars then something as simple as a bumper and head lights could write a car off, however unless the seller shows you photos of the damage, do not believe a word they say about how light the damage was! Might be worth plugging the reg into this site ... https://www.vcheck.uk/
