What daily???

Post by Fatneck73 » Tue Nov 12, 2019 10:23 pm

So, what would you buy as a daily if you were looking for mpg AND miles per tank...but nothing too gutless???

Stuff like A6 Avant Le Mans is what I’m kinda thinking of. I want AWD preferably but no essential. Nowt too slow...’2ltd Diesel’ power minimum.

Main aim is to minimise trips to petrol station.

I’ve always been intrigued by Clarksons 1000miles to a tank full in a Jag...and a chum always said he got 850 outta his Passat...and with all the experience on here (I doubt we ONLY drive RS’, we must have a few gems we can share.

For my ‘cheap runaround’ I first made the huge mistake of buying an older (58 plate) fully loaded Mondeo.
Even with all the toys such as adaptive cruise it really was a miserable place to be so very recently chopped it in for a 2009 E61 BMW 520d touring. Million times better and cheap (£4K) but does need more low down torque which a tune will sort out. Average around 44mpg although can achieve higher and getting around 600 miles per tank which ain’t bad.

335d touring, auto-only and 4 wheel-drive. Easily get 40mpg+. Smooth straight six with loads of torque. De-badged so everyone thinks it's a 320d.

Hi buddy

I kinda reckon that’s the one but sure we have some other suggestions? I doubt it’ll do 1000m to a tank.

335d at least 400 between fill ups, have often done 450+ on long runs.

335D = loverly...but I’m looking for 600+ Per tank.

Surely there’s some motors out there that can do this.

Autotrader implies a 420D is the one to go for but boy the 4 series is fugly

Just to update-filled up Friday and have done 306 miles since then. Mostly motorway traffic plus A and B roads. Mostly around 70 mph apart from putting distance from some mouth breathing white van mong who was trying to bully me out of the way Image
Still just over half a tank and range of 356 left.
Not bad for a barge with a small Diesel engine (520d touring)
