Unwanted modifications

Post by stevo55 » Mon Mar 11, 2019 8:26 pm

Away for work last week and some charming gentlemen in the middle of the night decided that our cars had far too many wheels on them Image
Professional job and no doubt to order. Took the locking wheel nuts with them and no one heard a thing. No alarms went off. They used wheely bins (it was bin day so they were all out) to cover the area facing the house. Current thinking is that they let the air out of the tyres and the cars sink onto the custom made wooden blocks. They then use either a ‘borrowed’ BMW Master Key for the nuts or use a heat gun to expand the bolts so they come off easier. Left zero damage which is a blessing (I needed new tyres anyway). Not the first time this has happened-a Range Rover had exactly the same drama a few nights previously. All in the south Cambridgeshire area.
New wheels going back on soon so am keen for ideas to prevent this sh1t happening again. Thinking placing car right up against a wall and then turning wheels full lock. Anything to make life difficult for them to do this again.
Car isn’t comfort access and had disklok fitted.

Just fyi, you can buy locking nut keys online. Chances are they just showed up with the full set, there's only about 20 iirc, and quickly matched it to the locking nuts you have.

Unwanted modifications

Post by stevo55 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:21 am

I’ve got the M3 and the missus has the M2. About £10k’s worth of alloys in one swoop...not a bad haul for the sh1tbags.
Putting cars in the garage is a problem and not really an option. Now realise that stock locking wheel nuts are pretty useless so looking for better 3rd part options. McGuard and Gorilla seem a good fit plus a wheel clamp. Needs to be something that doesn’t become a pain in the arse so you just stop doing it.

Didn’t realise that was an M2 too

Bummer

Shame you have to go to these defensive measures.

Look at Reguard wheel locks . Quite difficult to get hold off but a much better design than the the usual ones out there .

I would recommend one of these. I have several around the perimeter of my house. Alerts me while I’m home or away via my phone or tablets. I have it mated up to the chime WiFi extender as well. No one can come by my house without me knowing so.

Did you get a battery operated one or direct mains supply? You just have to be careful with the later one when it gets too wet.
