RS4 B7 vrs RS6 C6

Post by Jamesi82 » Sat Sep 08, 2018 9:23 pm

Hi All
I have been following the prices and things to watch out for on the RS6 C6 and out of interest looked at the RS4 B7. Not that different in pricing and not sure why. What are people’s thoughts between the 2 cars ?

C6 rs6 highly tuneable 800ps/1050nm ish, IMO needs the power as it weighs a ton anyway! Good for straight lines that’s about it.
Comes with a few big expensive jobs whichll need doing at some point but hey what doesn’t?

B7 is a proper drivers car it’s the complete opposite to the above lol

I was looking for a B7 RS4, have been for quite a while. I've just done the stupid thing though of putting a deposit down on a C6 RS6 instead after going out in it! Oh dear!!!

Why "oh dear"?
Cos he wanted an RS4 and bought an RS6 without even test driving it.

Oh, I read it as "putting a deposit down on a C6 RS6 instead after going out in it!"
So it seems that the '6 was so impressive that he got his wallet out after a test drive.
Hence my question...why oh dear?

I don’t agree with this. So much of a car’s performance is down to driver skill and capability. I took part in a 200 mile driving event in a C6 RS6 and two B7 RS4s couldn’t leave me behind at any point, including a lengthy drive on an extremely twisty section in rural Scotland.

I would advocate that anyone who buys anything that is remotely advertised as a performance car undertakes various types of driving courses. You’ll get more out of these than some of the more gentle upgrades to improve performance. I’m fortunate to have done driving courses in several countries, in a variety of environments, and that’s served me better than any mod I’ve made to a car, of which there are many.

And separately, they are two entirely different cars. It’s like comparing an apple and a banana, to decide which is the ultimate piece of fruit.

And one key point. If you think an RS4 has high ownership costs then don’t even consider the RS6 ;)

I’ve had both...at the same time.

4 is more of a ‘drivers’ car I think - partly coz of the manual box (so you feel move ‘involved’. 6 can do everything the 4 can but maybe not as ‘easily’...but it has / feels like its way more powerful.

For me, plodding out with the odd spirited blast is my style so 6 all day long. Racing about all day - the 6 would feel heavy and so I’d take the 4.

C6 is a quick car don’t get me wrong, but for me it lacks that supercar feeling (it is a v10 lambo engine). It’s lacking that childish ‘theatre’ if that makes sense?

The b7 is definateley more of a drivers car so much more engaging, i have most supercars at my disposal but nothing gives me the feeling that my b7 does.

@r56wuf I definateley agree with the driving courses I never knew the full potential of my cars until I Took part in a few.

I do get the childish theatre comment. It is certainly easier to access this in the RS4. That said, I’ve never failed to make anyone laugh with the sheer stupidity of the power of an RS6. No one expects the car to be able to do what it does, simply because it’s a two tonne estate car that can comfortably accommodate five adults, two labradors, two bikes and two canoes. I took a friend of mine, who used to hold a record on two wheels at the Isle of Man TT (so knows a thing or two about power and control) out in a C6 and he was blown away by its performance.

I see the RS6 and S8 as the sleeper car. The B7 RS4 is significantly more agressive in its styling so it loses the surprise factor. The B7 is an awesome car - I’m not suggesting anything to the contrary, however I just don’t think the two models can be compared to each other because they are poles apart in terms of what they offer.

Oh, I’ve also transported a full size wardrobe and a corner bath (separately) in an RS6. You can’t do that in a 997..
