Car dealer purchase nightmare

Hi chaps need some advice on a 2nd hand car purchase turned into a nightmare!

Wife was long time looking for a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. very rare model after months of trolling websites we only managed to view a handful of dogs.
As we were about to give up a lovely example came on the market, well over budget, but after a chat with dealer it seemed to be the perfect fit.

We took a 6 hour drive up to Newcastle to view the car and in person it was very clean and seemed honest. On the test drive noticed a few faults which weren’t advertised as present:
- Rear camera not working
- Rear parking sensors not working
- Drivers window not working
- Intermittant loss of power/boost.

So we were ready to walk very disappointed but the dealer agreed to pay for any work to be repaired at a local specialist of my choice and such was specified on the signed invoice.

So no problem we took the car home and got it booked in at a very well known Porsche specialist, advised the dealer and he contacted them to agree he would be paying for any work.

Here it where it gets messy. Porsche Indy sent a quote over totalling 3k of work for parts and labour. Dealer immediately phoned me and said he’s not paying the extortionate costs and now want to collect the car from London and take it back up to Newcastle to repair themselves.
I’m not happy for them to do that as I know it will be done as cheaply as possible and I’ll have no control over it at the other side of the country!
To top it all off Porsche Indy are refusing to release the car unless the diagnostic work is paid for and dealer isn’t budging on releasing any money so we’ve currently lost the car altogether.

In hind sight this had disaster spelt all over it from the start but I was blinded by the thought of a wasted 10 hour round trip.

How could I proceed from here? Do I have right to reject the car as it was sold under agreement of repairs being covered at a specialist of my choice? Is my hire car costs claimable from dealer?

Car was purchased less than 30 days ago.

Thanks.

car hire costs-nope
your agreement with dealer-not if he deems quote unreasonable,he has the right to get it fixed where he chooses-by himself if he can
opc parts new[and used] are a fortune-eye watering in fact,i"m surprised a northener agreed anything to do with london rates

is the diagnostic work expensive?

Not sure they won’t discuss costs with me at the moment as the dealer is the customer not us the owners.

What about taking a pragmatic view and maybe pursue the dealer for part payment of the quoted works?

Might cost you a grand or so but at least you'll have a car you know is on good fettle and with the least amount of hassle.

I imagine a bill of £3k is a relatively small one as far as porsche ownership will go.

Personally,

I think Contract Law takes precedence here.
Sounds like breach of contract - ergo hand the car back and just absorb the costs of visiting and hire car, not ideal but easiest way out I imagine.

not trying to be condescending either but that sort of car can throw huge bills at any given time, and you already stated it was a bit above your budget-i"d try and hand it back too as above,i"ve repaired a few old porkers and the price of parts is always "how much? !!! lol even compared to known expensive cars they take the mick for parts prices

Did you pay for some of it on your credit card? I always do this for at least a few hundred quid of the price to give section 75 protection.

I personally would look at getting the dealer to contribute half. Then take a hit in the remaining 1500.

Assuming the car is otherwise good, of course.

I've tried this before, the people I deal with tend to not like credit cards, too much of a paper trail, they say.

I think section 75 excludes personalised services anyway so no biggy.

Shame, it might alleviate me disposing of so many dead prossies. It's the only reason I've kept the avant, I could be back in a 'loon by now.
