I want to connect a Pure Highway to my 2008 RNS-E so I can get DAB in-car, plus play Spotify & have hands-free calling, but it needs an aux-in. I bought a cable off eBay and have connected it to the back of the unit and fed it through to the glove box but aux-in doesn't appear on the source menu. My local main Audi dealer didn't want to know, and a so-called specialist independent couldn't do it either. I've trawled around the web and have seen some code hack that a dealer might be able to do if they have the software, but I also saw somewhere that a software update will magically enable the aux-in. Reading this forum, someone called Petroldave seemed to be a expert, but he appears to have left the group. If I buy a later nav DVD, will that automatically update the software and will that give me my aux-in? If so, what year do I need and where's the best place to get hold of one?
I'm in Cornwall, between Truro & St Austell
Many thanks.
Can anyone help with my RNS-E, please?

You need to have the coding changed to let it know that Aux should be enabled as an input. If you can find someone with a VCDS cable in your area it's a couple of minute job.

The necessary change is to add 4 to the "Equipment I" coding:
There's also a comment in this thread that seems to indicate that software version 0650 is needed, so you'll need to get hold of a newer maps DVD to update the software if your currently version is lower than that.

The necessary change is to add 4 to the "Equipment I" coding:
Code: Select all
0xxxx?x: Equipment I
+1 = Standard/Basic Value - Add to the Sum of Options below
+1 = Audi Music Interface (AMI/PR-UF7) installed
+2 = Satellite Radio (SIRIUS/XM) installed
+4 = Analog Input (AUX/PR-UF0/UF1/UF2) installed

In my experience, the aux in sound quality is poor.
I've got a similar DAB unit to the Pure Highway in my car but rather than going through the Aux in, it transmits an FM signal that you tune the RNSE into.
I've had much better results this way.

Mine sounds ok to me quality-wise... the main annoyance is the relative quietness of the volume compared to the other inputs (i.e. switch it over to radio and you get blasted at high volume cause you had to turn it up to hear in aux mode)
