How far do you go with security?
How far do you go with security?
My very first S4 Avant arrives next week and I'm dead excited. But I'm also getting a little worried about security as it's the first properly thief-attractive car I've had.
So how far do you take security?
I'll keep it on my well-lit drive, with CCTV, in a less crime-ridden area. But I also park in swimming pool car parks at night. And the swimming club warned us about a spate of car jackings near one of the pools last year.
I'm arranging pukka insurance, of course. But what else do people do? Stoplock? Extra immobiliser? Tracker? I'm on a 2 year lease, so don't want to be spending silly money.

Autowatch Ghost
and/or
Turn off the keyless entry in the MMI if it still allows you to do it (does on the B8)
and/or
Pentagon Supaglass laminates on the front two door windows
and/or
Move the OBD into the cavity behind the dash board end cap (so you cannot access it unless the front door is open)

In addition to what Ian says plus:
1, Get a dislok over the steering wheel.
2,Set the unlocking function of the door locks to driver door on first press and double press for the rest of the doors.
3, Completely de-badge all S4 logos.
4, Always reverse Park to hide the 4 tailpipes
5, Make sure you buy GAP insurance
6, Fit all interior doors in your home with locks which stop anyone coming into the main house/upstairs.

And don't put the disklok key on the same fob as your car key......

Re: How far do you go with security?
You're better off getting as much security as poss.
I've noticed a lot more nickable cars with visual deterrents ie. Stoplocks. around.
My advice would be do whatever you can.
I only realised this after mine got taken which was too late.
If you're 'handy' with no kids, hide your keys at home. Otherwise, leave them on the stairs..

Re: How far do you go with security?
Thanks for all your ideas. I don't want to spend too much, as it's a two year lease. But then maybe I'll regret it if I lose it!

If you have a nice car, someone WILL want to steal it. Do everything you can, home Security is just as important. There must be no way they can get to the rear of your home
Re: How far do you go with security?
True dat, but these scum have no fear. The house up the road from us had the front bay windows smashed in so they could get the keys to the Evoque they used to have. An Evoque! Now that house has bars in the window and crap cars on the drive. Another mile or so a guy was dragged out of his house and beaten so they could get him to start his RS3.
I personally think that the best security measure is keeping your car hidden in a garage. Not practical for everyone.
