Which Motorway cruiser...?
Which Motorway cruiser...?
Hi All
Im starting a new job and will be a fair bit of travel around the uk.
Looking for a motorway cruiser, comfort and fuel economy over performance tbh.
So far, am considering 520d (although I’m told may as-well get a 535d!) or Lexus is300h.
Budget around 25k
Pretty sure I want adaptive (auto speed up / speed down) cruise too.
Any ideas, anyone have either of those?
Cheers!
P.S would love an Audi, but it seems they hold their value much better than Beemer cruisers.

Re: Which Motorway cruiser...?
Depends on how old and what mileage you'd consider and how big your parking space is.
An Audi A8 with appropriate toys on would do the job well, though depending on age adaptive cruise wasn't always available or specified.
Remarkably cheap when a few years old, especially the smaller engine (3.0TDi) versions.

Think an SQ5 could do the job aswell?

Here’s a link to my old car which I returned a couple weeks ago. If you’re interested in it I’ll speak to them and get you a better price than advertised. It was a fantastic car and I looked after it well.

Does it have adaptive cruise?
Thats a deal breaker for me...
Re: Which Motorway cruiser...?
No it doesn’t. I never really found the need for it. I drive a truck all day and I’ve only got standard cruise on that. Saying that I’ve never had it on any of my cars so can’t really base my opinion on anything. Have you tried a SQ5 yet. They are hilarious. They proper shock people. On motorway journeys you’ll get 40-45 mpg. Around town then it’ll be down to 23-30 mpg. On track I had it at 8-11 mpg.
Edit: They’re holding strong money at the moment because people say the new SQ5 is a downgrade compared to the old one. The new one just doesn’t do what the old one did. That’s the word anyway.

Re: Which Motorway cruiser...?
I had it on my B8 RS and fell in love with it. As a pro driver im sure you are already hard wired to deal with these things but ive never driven long distances regularly before. Tbh, im also using it as an excuse with the mrs to get something fully loaded, lol.Eddie555 wrote:No it doesn’t. I never really found the need for it. Not driven an SQ yet, but done a lot of research. Was an awesome looking one up for 32ish, fully loaded but just missed out ;(
Think theyll be much difference between the standard 3L and the SQ? Have u driven both? On paper, doesn’t look like much.

Re: Which Motorway cruiser...?
On busy roads these days I'd say adaptive cruise is almost mandatory, it make driving so much more relaxing (especially in traffic jams) and can also be a life-saver.
I've got 2 cars, one with standard the other adaptive and drive both with it engaged most of the time.
That said, the one with adaptive tends to get used for the journeys on really busy roads.

Yep, exactly my thoughts, safety is a genuine plus.HPsauce wrote:On busy roads these days I'd say adaptive cruise is almost mandatory, it make driving so much more relaxing (especially in traffic jams) and can also be a life-saver.

Which car / model do you have the adaptive on?
