Pre purchase independent inspection?

Folks, has anyone got any recommendations for companies who perform independent vehicle inspections, prior to a possible purchase please?
Apart from RAC/AA, I've not heard of any other companies who anyone I know have actually used.
Would you recommend RAC or AA in any case?
Many thanks
Greg

I would get a rac comprehensive check myself, more thorough than mot as they road test the car and get underneath and can remove undertrays to inspect also do a diognostic, they also do a bodywork inspection and you get to speak to the guy, I'm looking at getting one/RS4 B7 Avant myself as you probably know, but in no rush, an inspection can also be a bargaining tool to get price down from dealer/private etc but if unsure walk away, I've done that twice already if you read prior posts, GLWs/search, cheers Jimbob!

I had a full RAC inspection on my Lad's BMW 330 Ci Sport before we bought it a couple of years ago. Even though the car was 13 years old at the time it was of definately of use as it highlights areas of concern/needing correction.
I think the techician was there for quite a few hours with ramps etc.
Obviously on a car of this age we did get a lot of "to be expected" comments which is only fair.

I think both Unit20 and MRC will do them, but you have to take the car to them.
