HELP MMI failed Audi want £4000 to fix

I have an C6 A6 avant 2010. It has bose, MMI 3G High, HDD NAV, advanced key etc etc.
My daughter was sick on the back seat a week ago. Got the car valeted inside and out. the next day the MMI was playing up - no sound from anything, Radio would only find the FM channel (no sound), phone wouldn't connect, sat nav seemed to work but no sound and none of the steering wheel functions would work.
Tried to hard reset the MMI by pressing the setup, centre and top right buttons, but that only resulted in the start up screen appearing and then dying instantly when you turn the unit on - that's the state of play now.
Just been to my local audi garage who say the main MMI unit needs replacing at a cost of £2600 plus VAT plus labour = £4k. They say there is no communication with it. Part number is 4E0035670CX. The main unit is located in the glove box.
Can anyone help with this? I can't believe the the valeting and the failure are not connected. Isn't there a bluetooth module near the passenger footwell? Could it be the bluetooth module instead? Ive seen a main MMI module for sale on German eBay from a 2009 allroad for 670 Euro which is more stomach-able but is it simple to fit? Can anyone point me in the direction of a reliable second opinion - are hazy days any good?
Many thanks
