So had a wee shot of a 8P RS3 today.

Wow just showed me how fast the RS6 is. night and day quicker.

RS3 vs RS6

Cons,

Slower (much slower)
less refined
more road noise, although not as much as I expected. more than acceptable.
more wind noise, as above
less toys
driving position too high
slight turbo lag
Smaller
duller looks
less torque

pros,

loads cheaper
if it breaks who cares
more chuckable
more fun at lower speeds
no need for a fuel tanker to follow you around
very tuneable engine
tuning parts readily available at decent prices
fun car
smaller and easier for the wife to drive / park
understated, no need to hide it
more comfortable than I expected
no torque steer (RS6 deffo had an issue there)

I had a spirited drive home is the RS6 tonight (50 odd miles) and must admit I really enjoyed it. Its a lovely place to be, but just a bit boring at non warp speeds. its a huge car and does not suit the roads I drive on (poor A & B roads) I am going to miss it but given the cost I think there will be a sigh of relief when its gone. huge car, speed, tech and huge cost and for me just not worth it. I am looking forward to a cheaper wee project where I can get my hands dirty and not worry about cost and warranty.

please don't take anything above as an insult or me slating a given car, its just "my" opinion and after all that counts for nothing.

Overall he RS6 is an awesome car but just not for me. I could not muster any enthusiasm for tuning the 6

600bhp RS3?? who knows, but will be fun trying lol

8P or 8V?

I had an 8P RS3 and it's the single worst purchase of my life. Awful. And it was awful on fuel too.

P. V is too expensive. I want something cheap and cheerful I can play with and not break the bank.

it certainly did not find it awful

knowing it wont last long anyway lol

It handles like a wheelbarrow and has tech from the 1980s. Added to which drive shafts and gearboxes could barely cope with standard power.

It's chuckable, just don't expect it to go where you ask it to.

+1 with doodle.

I found the mk1 RS 3 is terrible. I ran one for nearly 10k miles.

BUT !! I did a Wales trip in it, in Winter, and I am certain that no other car would have kept up with me on the welsh B roads in those conditions - it is super rapid, but... [everything that doodle said]

oh well wrong car again

TTE500bhp turbo first then go from there. I am looking forward to it, I always like the underdog.

Its only a car at the end of the day. if its rubbish I will just go get another one, no harm done, good fun if nothing else.

Awesome.

looking for around 600bhp from the RS3 but seems like there are a few issues to overcome. Cardan shaft bolts, then once you replace them the shaft itself fails at the centre joint. Seems only to be an issue if you launch the car. I wont be doing that anyway. Uprated bolts is easy but cant find an uprated shaft yet

Yeah I did look at them but only 2.0 lt I wanted the 2.5 of the RS3. Handling is just another bit I can improve on and play with. Playing is part of owning a car for me. I think going new RS6 was a mistake for me as I could not do much that would not break the bank

How about a C6 then? Plenty to modify on that. Mind you, it is still probably pricey to modify.
