Just had my R8 Multipoint checked at Audi

Post by SteveG » Fri May 20, 2016 7:39 pm

Hi Chaps.

As above, the check highlighted the following:

Ribbed belt is cracked

Wheel stud covers – set are missing

Wipers – smearing

Rear brake discs are corroding on inner edge

Requires new sport button as inop. (may require further diagnostic once button is replaced)

Slight damage to under tray – still serviceable
Requires OSF arch rubber strip as missing.

Rear tyres are not RO1 rated.

I am buying the car from a Merc main dealer who have had the car serviced at Audi, aand getting that from them was hard, I asked them to do a MPC check at AUdi and it was like pulling teeth from them getting them to agree tot MPC' at Audi. Merc have put new rear tyres on the car, and like idiots they didn't think there may be specific tyres for the R8, so the tyres they put on are not RO1 rated, just Pirelli ZR.. rated

Can someone tell me if there I anything in this list that I should worry about ? Like the cracked belt mentioned for example :? Is that dangerous (ie if it snaps will it cause severed damage etc ??

Thanks for any light you can shed on the above for me.

Thanks guys, that's kinda in line with my thinking.

What is the belt? What would be consequences of a break ? Is it costly to replace ?

Thanks Steve

Is the cambelt (presuming that's what there talking about) due? On either age or mileage? If so, depending on price of car, get it changed as part of the deal, or a significant sum of money knocked off.

If it breaks? Engine write off, 5 figure sum.

I wonder why they feel the sports button requires replacing, unless it's a common thing, then surely there is a bigger underlying issue of why it doesn't work!

I think a cam belt is a timing belt.

Further,...I thought cam belts are actually chains on these engines ?? If that is correct then what other belts are there ?
Could this be a serpentine/ V belt that is being called a ribbed belt ? If it is then that is something that powers electrical bits like AC and pas iirc. ??
Please tell me if I am confused, very poss as I'm no mechanic :)

Yeah thanks DK for confirming.

I checked the advisories with Grizz also, the belt is the serpentine one, so runs aux stuff. Should be fine therefore, and on the whole pretty good result for the R8 which is good to hear.
