Key chip copy ???

Not sure how to describe this but my son needs the chip from his A1 key fob copied to allow him to have alarm system fitted.
I went to Audi they will only supply new key at £170 plus. I tried a local place who could copy and then supply just a small chip but would not read his key as the code is still protected by Audi.
Any ideas to save buying new key ???

Would love to help you fella but not overly knowledgeable on these things!!!

Why does the new alarm system require a new chip? That's not something I have come across on my former alarm systems!!.

Is it not just a case of buying a spare key and getting it coded via VCDS?. Would have thought you could get a blank key fob somewhere cheaper than Audi perhaps?!!

Would I be correct that you're having an alarm with remote start fitted ?? Does the A1 not come with a plastic service key?? If so can't you use that?

Eddie555. You are correct it's my son who is having the remote start along with air ride. On his spare key is just a code number I don't think it's actually a chip. They just need the chip to allow the car to start set ride height from slammed but stay locked.

You'll find that that plastic key has a chip embedded inside it so it will solve your problem.

Maybe im getting old but whats the fasination with Air Ride? not having a dig at anyone i mean each to thier own i respect a car that looks good regardless of make/model.
Just dont understand the air ride crack, i'd much prefer a nice set of coilovers and slam it round a track flat out.... maybe the fact insurance is so stupidly expensive these days it ruins it for the younger generation so they have to get smaller engined cars, meaning they have to spend money on making it look good rather then being fast... not sure.

Any ideas?

Tomrs I'm with you. He's young working hard as an apprentice and just wants the slammed look his money not my choice but I have to say his car so far looks really good and he looks after it. He's trying to get me to put air ride on the 6 "Not happening !!!!!!!"

Seems to be the thing with VAG cars, its all about looks... air ride, ceramics, and 1.9tdi's haha! not like jap shows where its full of highly modified fast cars.
VAG shows usually happen in a field and jap shows usually are at a race track! its why i'll always be a jap fan boy at heart, its the going round a track enjoying yourself and having compition with other cars that i love! i'd rather have a mechaniaclly amazing car with rough looks then one that looked mint but didnt go no where.

I always get asked when i turn up to track days in the RS "your not taking that on are you?" "yes why?" "wouldnt it be better in a field with air ride so people can look at it" "they can look at it when its parked up in the pits cooling down"
To which i put my helmet on and show up anyone i can haha!

But each to thier own as you say his money! me and my dad have RS's i have the 6 he has a 4 and were both like minded so maybe its just what i grew up with i dont know.
Least he's into his cars though!

And good on you! i wont be going air ride either, KW adjustables and keeping my DRC!

Seems like it's Audi only. He only has a chassis number on the spare key. Not the old style service key
