Hi Guys,

Im new here and looking to buy my first rs4 b7. Ive test driven quite a few and now know more or less what im looking at. The question ive got is, do i go for a low mileage (40000) example or a well maintained higher mileage one (80000+)

I figure if i buy at 40000 miles it will need things like clutch and discs within a few years but if i buy at 80000 with these things done, there there is potentially other stuff that could come up. Im likely to be doing 10000+ miles a year

What do you guys think?

Mine was on 80+ when I bought it, but had been extremely well maintained. I'd rather a "high mileage" car that's been really well looked after and has a good spec than a low mileage one with potential issues. I wasn't originally looking for one with more than about 60K, but this one had been so well looked after and the spec had everything I wanted and more. No brainer.

I think two of the biggest misnomers in car buying are the psychological 100k barrier, and the "one careful lady owner" concept.

Having said that, are there any other differences between the two in terms of spec, mods, price?

If the following haven't already been seen to on either car, then consider they may need doing at some point:

- DRC is prone to failure
- Brakes are on the expensive side (front discs around £600)
- Clutch (I'd expect the 80k car would need one soon if not already done)
- Carbon buildup. All RS4's suffer from this. Lots of debate on here whether its actually worth cleaning the buildup (as it'll return). Factor £600 for a clean
- Oil cooler pipes corrode and start leaking
- Aux radiators can leak
