London-Edinburgh in B7 RS4

I am planning a journey from London to Edinburgh (and back) at some point in the next few weeks so hoping to get opinions on the following:

1. What is the best route to take if stopping on the way there but not stopping on the way back? On the way there, where best to stop for a 24 hour period? I was thinking Lake District?

2. Does it make sense to invest in winter tyres just for this trip? Never really needed them in London!

Before you suggest flying or taking the train as better alternatives, please know that the only reason for driving is to give the B7 RS4 a good run!

Mate!!!! If you want to give it a good run fill tank up and give it the beans for a hour or two....going to scotland and back just to give it a run out sounds silly :biggrin3: nevermind filling it up 4 or 5 times on the way :bash:

Sounds awesome. Plenty of pictures and enjoy the run.
