Stopped by police and threatened with 'Furious Driving'

Going out for lunch this afternoon with the wife and little un, I found myself going from a single carriageway onto a clear dual carriageway so I booted it for a couple of stretches of carriageway between roundabouts and gave it some round the roundabouts too.
Then I saw the flashing blue lights behind me.
This policeman was going mental at me and scaring my daughter in the back and he said I was doing 8omph in a 60. It was clear dry weather with not a sigle other car in sight ahead of me (I didn't overtake a single car).
He was telling me he could do me for furious driving which apparently means I'd lose my license and never get it back.
Then he let me go with the warning that as I was local he was sure to me again and he'd be keeping an eye on me.
So I looked it up. Looks like it is a law from the 1800s for horsedrawn carriages that cause bodily harm to people. Where do they find these people?

Maybe he's been watching too many Fast & Furious films!
I've never heard of that offence - always thought it was dangerous/reckless driving. But then again, I personally don't think 80 in a 60 in the way you did it is either of those... But then again, I'm a petrolhead with an RS4 so i suppose I am biased!

He said you were doing 80 in a 60? Take it you weren't, and actually he was being lenient?
Look, we ALL speed (go above speed limit) if you get caught, tough sh1t. If someone in your family got killed by someone speeding bet you'd be pissed. Some cops are ok, this one let you go but shouted at you, he let you go.
Some cops are tools, I got pulled one night at 2am with nothing else on the dual carriage way for pulling away from traffic lights too quickly. I was in a pug 306gti, not going to set the tarmac on fire but still got pulled. I just had to do a producer the next day.

I was clearly speeding, but not dangerously in my mind. Not sure on actual speed, but the wife asked me if I was speeding as she thought I was under the limit.
I understand getting pulled over, and wouldn't have even objected to 3 points (my license is clean at the moment but 3 points seems to make my insurance cheaper). It was just how crazy this guy was. He was shaking with anger. Seemed a bit over the top for the speed.

Exactly this. I've been pulled by a panda car for speeding - 93mph apparently. I think what he meant was 'I had to do 93 to catch you up' because last time I checked, Vauxhall Astra panda cars don't have any form of calibrated speed measuring device installed. I just had to listen to him rant a little and then get on my way. Nothing was ever going to come of it he just wanted to pull a nice car over because he could I'd wager.

I wonder if some of these police look up ancient laws to quote at people to try and look clever. Who has ever heard of furious driving? It is from 1861 before the car was even invented. I think Dick Turpin may have been pulled over once for this offence but as his horses didn't hurt anyone they let him off.

Should have taken his police number and called the local cop shop to report him.
Police, can't live with em, be completely screwed with out em.
My brother got driven into by a drunk driver yesterday, said the cops were very good.

Although overreacting I didnt realise how ridiculous this law was until I goggled it so didn't see the need totake his number down. Plus the last thing I need is to start a war with the local plod. Don't fancy having my car confiscated again.

Confiscated again? Oh dear, was that a section 59...?
