Gen I or Gen II 997 ?

Need some intelligent brain power please :biggrin2:

My budget has moved to £35k which means I am looking at 2008 997 Gen 1 C4S or a 2008 997 Gen 2 Carerra (both Manual). Both have 45k miles and similar options (4s has addition of PSE). They are both the same price, so unsure which to opt for. I will only keep 12 months then sell.

My thinking is ....So the 4S is last of Gen 1's (but wide body and 4wd), however the Carerra is a newer look/ revised engine, almost as powerful, low road tax..

Which should I buy to have fun with and not lose so much money come resale ? I am wondering that the Gen1 will lose less, as the Gen 2 has already got to the same price point as it..

Please help me with which you think will depreciate slower and justification ??

Thanks
J

Gen 2! If your budget is 35k, you'd be completely nuts to blow that on any spec gen 1 imo! The gen 2 will definitely depreciate slower as you will have people nervous about buying the gen 1 due to the engine! 35k on a 2008 gen 1 would be risky when you see perfectly decent 2008 gen 1s advertised for 25k with slightly higher miles

Id buy something like the one I posted in your other thread, 2009 Carerra 3.6, manual, 19s, was £31,900 from memory, you'd lose very little on that over 12 months

And yes, the fact the gen 2 manual 3.6 is half the road tax is a bonus and another good (re)selling point too

Hi Ian,

I cannot find any manual 997 4S with 60k miles or less for under £29,995 on autotrader/PH. so they are a little more rare than other models...Am I looking in the wrong places, please advise?

I do hear what you are saying however, both at the same price and both 08 confuses me..the Gen 1 4S has Porsche warranty also

I was looking at Gen1 recently and the engine thing scared me off. If I could have bought a Gen.2 I would have so I would say for resale value Gen.2.

You will lose the same on both. The 4S is a thing of beauty, but the interior of the Gen II is nicer and more modern. Don't let the Gen I engine problems stories scare you, those problems are NOT common as else no one would buy the car, including dealers. Do get the car inspected, (if you have the warranty, then happy days !). Good choice by the way ! I would get the Gen II, but would take either car no issue. It is all down to spec mileage/condition.

Do you reckon you could get this for 35k? Probably not quite. 2 year warranty buying from Porsche.
