They did that over an A5?! Seems extreme.
I guess that's one advantage of selling on a forum.

I thought that & then after going to all that trouble they ditched it soon after.
A friend of mine about 4 weeks ago was watched at a well known & busy gym in a nearby town, someone working at the gym let the car thief in through a staff entrance (no video cameras) & told them where his locker was. They then broke into the locker & stole the keys while he was working out. You'd expect to go to all that effort they'd be driving something fairly exotic, but all this for a 2yr old BMW F10 520d.

I don't think selling on a forum is any different. Most of the people looking for / buying forums cars are newbies / unknown and therefore potentially the exact same people that carried out this kidnapping / robbery. Selling cars privately now carries a high risk of theft, and I imagine more and more people will sell to the trade to avoid the risk now.
And as this happens, and as people start protecting their homes more I can only imagine the thieves will start to target the dealers more and more; lets face it, they have loads of high value cars sitting out the front with their keys readily available inside (and the staff are less likely to take risks to stop them being nicked than the average guy with this pride and joy). I bet it won't be long before we start seeing security guards in car dealerships.

I've always thought leaving your keys in a gym locker is a little dodgy, that takes the piss when the staff are involved too
