Post by Deano_123 » Thu Oct 16, 2014 10:09 am

My car gets little use throughout the year I'm wanting a trickle charger to preserve the battery, whats the best options out there?

I use one of these for the track car. Can't remember which model 5.0 I think. http://www.ctekchargers.co.uk/index.php conditions too.

Ctek mxs5.0 here.

Big enough for any car, small enough to still charge yor bike, or golf caddy if that's your thing.

If it broke I'd buy another tomorrow.

I used to use one on a Tvr I had when left in the garage over the winter months
Good bit of kit and varies the charge too to stop the battery getting a 'memory' whatever that means
I had an adapter so you just plugged it into the cigarette lighter plug and it charges through their rather than having to faff with the battery

halfords do one and it does exactly what it says on the tin

Ring RCB320 Battery Charger

why waste your money on anything more expensive with modern add ons that aren't worth a toss and are just something else to go wrong !

There's a big difference between a charger to get a dead battery going and a trickle charger / optimiser you can leave plugged in 24/7

I have the Ctek MXS, I dont have the cigar lighter connector and dont have time to get one as the car is going away for winter tomorow, is it fine to just connect the clamps to the battery and leave it on setting 8 as per the instructions?

Simple instructions but the car will be left in the garage for the next 3 or 4 months and I dont want to burn the house down
