A6 3.0 winter wheels

A chum of mine has a new A6 Avant...and is off to France soon and has been told he needs snow chains...but that they won't fit on his 19's?
If true? I suggested he get some winter wheels/tyres that chains would fit on coz then when he's back, he can sell them and recoup some money.
Agree/disagree? And advice or anyone any winter wheels foe sale?
