Which 4WD Estate car do I need?

Guys,
I need to shift a 2WD VW Passat and buy a 4WD estate car as my wife, in all her infinite wisdom, has decided that driving to ski resorts will be more fun than flying. Irrespective of whether she is right or wrong (she hate airports and wants to stop off in Paris on the way), I thought I'd post here because, as we know, we are all the authority on what cars people need.
In the running:
VW Passat ALLTRACK (VW don't do a conventional 4WD Passat)
Audi A4 ALLROAD (2.0 TDi)
These are what I'm looking at (have I missed any brilliant others?) - I need good fuel (not an RS4 Avant) and a MY 11 onwards, bit of comfort. The Passat is huge inside but the Audi just seems a better car but less space in the back - I have no kids but lots of snowboards. Wife has lots of clothes.
Thanks for your time.
