Ok so picked up my B7 RS4 this weekend. Awesome.
Now I need more of a practical family car as well - I'm thinking of an estate.
Was thinking S4 maybe!
Not looking brand new - Any thoughts?

A3 tdi 5 door? Was looking at a 2009 one in silver for my missus. Just under £8,000 full history and only £30 a year road tax plus nearly 70 to the gallon!

I knew I would get some abuse - and I know it is a family car to an extent, but when I travel with the family to Scotland or Europe, I would spend most of my spending money on fuel.

That's a really good price.

Was on Autotrader. 2009 58 plate in silver. Not the most amazing looking car on the planet but the missus really liked the look of it.

Eh?
'To an extent'?
B7 rs4 saloon Works for me for family use.
As for Europe etc... Steady cruising is about 26-28 mpg. Full tank is what? 320-350 miles range is cruising.
So you'll end up spending at least 500 plus on tax n insurance for another car and another couple hundred on servicing before you even drive it. How often do you go to Europe and Scotland?

I go to Scotland in the RS6 and live close to you by the sounds of it. Can get there on a tank! Get an RS6 avant mate.

Exactly! Question seemed odd to me when already owning a family car.

But an s4 isn't going to save bundles over the rs4 in reality.
Worth factoring all te costs over a year - tax, insurance, servicing, fuel, depreciation...
You'll probably find that it's not as clear cut as you think.
If it is really a problem then for long motorway trips diesel is by far the best solution.
Hybrids work in built up areas not on long trips.

Never thought of Hybrids don't really appeal. Was thinking Of a diesel. Looked at A4 Avant - can get a 2009 one for 15000k.
For all you guys keep going on about RS4 being a family car - yes I know - but the simple fact is we need two cars one of which will be used for putting on lots of miles with trips to see family etc. II prefer not to do that with my B7 which already has 89000 on the clock. That is for short - medium journeys.
Hopefully you can understand the logic.

RS4 is for short to medium journeys? Wow, er, ok. How the hell can you own an RS and not take it to Scotland???
