No problem, shame about the <beep> house!

The tuners have come back to me regarding my revised requirements, are telling me that they would try to keep the old block wherever possible (which I don't want to do and have said many times to them), would beef up all the internals again but just that would be about 5k and I would only be looking at around 350bhp or so before they would want to put in a 6 speed transmission. Reminded them that as per the dyno graphs they have for her when they last worked on her, she was running well above that and the 5 speed was holding in 2008.

Have told them I will wing it with the gearbox and if/when it blows up I will justify it to madam. Have given them a final budget of 10k for the build but have told them that I need to see something pretty special for that on this old clunker! Christ, I could get the custom box for beast for that and crank up the torque, starting to wonder if I am doing the right thing but hey, I rarely do.

A bit late late now though, I am not that nerdy enough tbh and most of the VAG snobs won't be even vaguely interested I reckon dude. The only reason I am spamming this on here is that the average IQ of a Scooby owner still seems to be about 75 so most of what I say regarding their cars offends them

Oh god. After thinking long and hard about this car and what the tuners are wanting to charge me to still not get her to where I expect her to be for that money, I have been having a think about saying to hell with it, finishing fixing up pretty well everything except for the engine and selling her on. I may even take the busted lump out myself and the ECU, stick in a working stock engine and ecu and sell on if it is worth it.

At least I would get the sad, warm fuzzy feeling that I had saved the car from rotting on that driveway or being turned in stickered to death chav wagon.

The possible idea is to buy a well sorted one instead where everything I want has been done and more and I have some money left over to play with her. I have seen a well modified P1 for sale which ticks 8/10 boxes including a 6 speed box and a fair chunk of power (430/420 so not too bad, 2.5 lump though so much more power could be a problem, midrange punch turbo too, not a big power one...) and have approached the seller to ask lots and lots of questions. Fecking thing would have to be well oop north though but an airport is close.

Just a thought as he has sunk all his money in to it and is taking the financial hit selling her on, I just have to make sure she is a good one and the depreciation will be far lower on a P1 normally, even modified.

Sounds like the voice of reason. Stick a standard lump in, or get the engine working again, and move on. If you are even considering this that tells me that your brief (re)infatuation is fizzling.

Or sell all 3 and get an RS3 to keep the 6 company.

I am just thinking logically about the money being put in to her really. Realistically I reckon I will be at 12k or more, not including the 2.6 I bought her back for, to get her more or less exactly where I want her, for a car that would be worth 6k on a good day, regardless of uniqueness. I still have the drive to do it but the voice of reason in my head is growing louder.

Madam is still expecting us to be moving out later this year and I should be putting more time in to work as I have really got slack recently and have clients waiting to give us money for network upgrades but I cba to even sit down and write proposals (they do take hours and hours in all fairness but some clients have been waiting for well over 3 months, oopsie!), such is way the noggin works/doesn't currently.

In the meantime I will continue to fix up everything I can while I make my mind up. I think I will still get the current lump stripped down just so see if it is a cheap fix to get her available to sell should I choose to do it.

Take care of work first (said the pot to the kettle) or there'll be no money for toys. Everything changes all the time so if you've got the opportunity, make hay while the sun shines. It's not like you haven't got any other way to get around. Get rid of the scoob and the other superfluous cars and get something that ticks your boxes. Obviously you can't get rid of the 6 or we will be sending you hate mail for ever. Well, I will. :)

Nein, only substitutions or additions to the fleet will be made for now! A well-fettled P1 with my touches on it, does tickle my giblets I have to say. I could fix Fluffy up and give her to my mum for giggles. Right, I had better try to actually lay down a paragraph or two.......

/typo.

Not sad really as I will be giving Fluffy a new lease of life at the end of the day and I am veering more towards buying another one.

I have always spent a fortune on modding cars, then sold them and the new owners get to benefit from all my work/money for nothing, I figure it is about time that I get to benefit from someone else's modding habit, as long as they have done it right.

How come, the mess? There aren't much simpler cars to work on. Once the new seats are cleaned and I have finished butchering the best set of door cards together, lots of plastic weld..., I will have that assembled back to factory in well under an hour.
