You could well argue the same for standard road tax, as I agree there are scumbags without all three requirements - tax, MOT, or insurance - this would be the reasoning for a nominal fee for tax.derdle wrote:What's the point of introducing a scheme that people can avoid? You can clock cars, some cars never get MoT'd - like new ones or scumbags with older illegal cars. The sensible option is to increase fuel duty - the more fuel you use, the more you pay. It's a very simple method. As the vehicle milage can be assessed at the time of MOT, this would result in a more appropriate charge for a vehicles emissions and limit any need for an expensive roadpricing solution.
Unfortunately, there will always be someone seeking to dodge any system

They already do, my missus garage has had a huge increase in drive offs in the last couple of months.GardinerG wrote:And if it was all on Petrol then people would just steal it.
It used to be a couple a month, now its several a week. As the price of petrol rises beyond the reasonable means of a lot of people it is going to become more common place that you will find your tank syphoned I expect.
. S4 Nogaro Blue Avant . ECS IV . RS4 handling bits . 18" Ultraleggera . AWE Boost Gauge . MRC Custom Map . 315 BHP . 482 Nm .
Did you hear the story about a drunk guy trying to syphon fuel out of a mobile home, he tapped in to the sewage tank instead. Needless to say police found him collapsed in a heap on the floor in rather bad shape.
Have a hidden filler for petrol, and put a booby trap in the other visible one...
i.e. Something that will kill the engine of the receiving car in a short period of time....

Tax on fuel is the only fair tax for all cars.
If you(we) choose to drive a 'gas guzzler' with a higher CO2 value, then we'll pay more through petrol duty. If you drive a hybrid or low CO2 vehicle, then you'll save money.
Flat rate VED for all cars.....
It's a simple formula!!

Yeh - so my MY98 S4 (and wifey's 306 gti6) are going to go up to a max of £200 per year.
From my perspective, it *COULD* be worse.
As a plus side, I have a feeling that that my S4's value *might* actually hold a bit, as it's going to be a car that doesn't get hit by the 2001 rules. Therefore, for people wanting a performance car that doesn't get caned (as much) by the VED rules, it could be an option!!
Well, I can only dream!!

There's a really good thing on Parkers which might help out with any confusion......
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=22330
The irony being that it's cheaper to run a Ferrari 355 GTS that an RS4 or S4
under the new VED rules.

happy dayz .... party ....
Damn straight! And not just for this crap - but virtually for everything else that this bunch of ghastly self-serving wankers have done to the country. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire - I'd rather watch them burn and writhe in tortured agony. C*nts. This government have seriously lost the plot and the sooner they are kicked out of office the better.
