Very good point. No my B5 isn't stock. It has had plenty of mods that have greatly improved it over stock, one of which is B7 brakes

I'd put the latest 6 right up there too
There's quite a few variable in 'best'
Maybe as a track or weekend tool for blasting, the b7 RS4's got to be right up there, but for everyday driving and as an ownership proposition (depreciation excluded) b8 RS4 or C7 RS6 are the top of the tree in my opinion
-------------------------------------------------------
Gone - 11/06 B7 RS4 Avant - black/black (Daily drive & kids taxi)
Gone - 05/13 B8 RS4 Avant - Suzuka grey (Daily drive & kids taxi)
Gone - 01/14 B8 RS5 Coupe - Short term car
Gone - 09/14 B8 RS4 Avant - Misano Red/Ceramics (Daily drive & kids taxi)

Current - 04/18 B9 Rs4 Nardo Grey
ZX10R Race bike - 210bhp and a few skid marks on the seat ;)

Biased but b7 rs4. Got mine because it ticked all the boxes. Power, handling, sound, comfort, 4x4, practical, rep... After a year and a half, I still love the car. The only thing I would change about the car is the power. 400+ bhp should be enough for anyone really but still... I really will be stuck for what to replace it with. I have no intention of selling now or even in the distant future. I will likely get a newer motor and keep the b7 tidy.
