I bet its a custom remap producing approx 350-370bhp utilising sports cams with the milltek exhaust system. oh and over 420Nm.

Top speed of 170-180mph`ish

Sorry to disagree but have owned M3/M5 and RS4 and out of the box in standard form the M3/M5 are better drivers cars than the RS4. However the huge improvement you can get fitting the RS4 short shifter and GmbH supension really improves the driving experience. Then of course the ability to easily tune the turbos only adds to its capabilities. Will be interested to see how your German friends react to the new V8 RS4 without turbos as then they will have no ability to out-tune the equivalent BMW!!

I personally owned an E46 M3 as well and I agree with JohnH!! As for mods, sky is the limit! However, power wise, I believe the current RS4 has much high potenetial that the M3 straight 6!

All the mods we're doing to the M3 reflect the fact that extra power is hard to come by.....we'll never get RS4 type turbo thrust.

However we can enhance the areas that it needs work and overall the relative speed to a modded RS4 will be very similar but with an enhanced driver dynamic.

Its certainly a bit much, Bem.

Front engine with 500hp and all that weight needs either a 3 speed auto box, or 4wd

IMO the new 5 series looks disgusting, so I would like to see how they rescue the M version.

The reason it needs the 7 speed gearbox is because it is a very high reving engine (8500rpm) and doesnt have a huge amount of torque so ratios need to be closer. Whereas on the big torque engines like AMG you can get away with even 5 speed gearbox as the torque available at low revs is so huge!!

I know this is an Audi site, and I am an Audi fan, but it would be interesting how many of our members would prefer the rear wheel drive E60 M5 (ugly as it may turn out) to the more expensive 4wd RS6 Saloon.

P.S.I like the RS6 Avant, but with a stiffer suspension and ABT wheels.
Said like a true Audi convert JR but although your newly (more highly modded) RS4 will no doubt be a rocket are you really saying that it will be faster around the track than a GT3?
Won't a Caterham/vx220 turbo go faster than a GT3 - but that is hardly the point.Surely.

What makes you think the E60 M5 will be cheaper than the RS6?

Based entirely on the chatter picked up on US web-sites - the Yanks always get the best prices. Crowded market place, and interest rates going up? And finally the E30 M3 2.5 Evo Sport ( the flagship M3 in 1990) was the same price as an M5 then. The M3 CSL is £58k. And BMW are quite savvy at pricing their products. No?

My guess is around £60K for the new E60 M5 depending on what they decide to include as standard. This would make it in same ballpark as RS6 which would have ceased production by then I assume and so wont be seen as competition. E55 is slightly more expensive but then it always has been.

Thanks John, now I get why it needs a 7 speed box!

8,500rpm with a 5L V10!! I wonder what it'll sound like with a set of Militek?? I dare say we will ever use the 7th notch in HKG!! Haa haa.. I hardly use 6th with my RS4!! May be I am driving way too slow!!
