Clio 172 Cup, track car to race car
Re: Clio 172 Cup, track car to race car
Thats only for the 750club. If you look at regs on the track attack web page regs are on there... Its open... Depending on how many valves dictate the class. Think yours would be in class B (iirc)

Yep, only do one race if you wish, lots of ppl only do some of the races, its aimed at Budget motorsport. Its not a championship where you are committed.ASH555 wrote:Hmmmm, can you do one or two rounds?

1) Order go racing pack (watch DVD and read Blue Book) http://www.msvtrackdays.com/car-home/go-racing.aspx
.a) study Q and J sections and flags (you need to get 100% in the test on the flags)
2) Book ARDS test at local test track http://www.msvtrackdays.com/car-home/ards
.a) First part of test is written
.b) Second part is practical
3) Book medical with your local GP (Or call around for best quote).
4) Send off paperwork for National B race license
When you receive Go Racing pack it contains the application form that is serial numbered to you, you need to bring this to your ARDS test where it will get stamped, same application form then gets taken to the docs for medical part to be filled in....once this is complete you can send it off to receive your National B race license. These last for 1 calender year (all race licenses expire end of the year 31st Dec). Renew is £57.
Once you receive license you are ready to race, pick a club to race with, if you fancy the series im in then you just join the club for year membership and print off the race application form and pay the race fee, they will send you the correct forms that you need to fill out with personal and car details...such as make and model, class, transponder number (if you don't have these can be hired on the day) race license number etc etc
Track Attack, French Trophy http://www.trackattackraceclub.com/page ... ason_id=25
When you turn up to race, its a very busy environment with a lot going on, more than a track day so to speak, and you are always against time.
You have to sign on, get car scrutinneered, get you're personal kit scrutineered, helmet has to have a MSA sticker on it, if not this costs £3 to have it on, car also has top be noise tested. The car should conform to MSA regs (in the bluebook), it does not have to confirm to FIA spec unless you plan on racing in Europe, but then you need a Nat A/International B license for this...

Re: Clio 172 Cup, track car to race car
Took advantage of a break in the weather this week and removed the gearbox from the car. I decided to lift engine and take box out rather than dropping the sub-frame.
Dropped box off yesterday with Matt at CodeRed (Sevenoakes)to inspect the box, as I couldn't select reverse gear due to me hitting a high rumble strip at Donington in last years Track Attack race. I am also having the closer ratio 5th gear added.
Im getting good at this, done this in less than 4 hours and on my todd....

Update March 2014
Ok so we are back on track....
Picked up my gear box yesterday from CodeRed, box needed opening up to investigate why I had lost reverse gear (due to the knock it received at last years Donny race), after a lot of time and effort my Matt, replacing parts and stripping and assembling the box together he finally found the problem, we initially suspected a damaged selector fork but it turns out to be the spindle that the gear-set is on..so he replaced the whole gear set with one of his spares. (maybe Matt can explain more on findings).
He had found my 4th gear to be burred around the edges, this must have happened on the race or at the 2 test days at Spa (car had only seen 3 track days).
Service from Matt has been second to none, so many thanks Matt.
I was due to have the 33/37 ratio gear installed, the parts turned up, but the box had been packaged up incorrectly and was supplied with a 39th 5th gear....so without wanting to waste any time, I took the box away to install on the car, while Adam sources the correct part.Bit pissed off, but such is life.
So today I popped the box back in, car now has a lightened flywheel and new clutch. I still need to plumb the rest of the coolant system in along with the drive shafts and wiring etc, I ran out of time before having to start work.
So only jobs to do, is to install the new year discs and pads and cut the grooves into DS3000 front pads and we are good to go.
I have a test day booked at Rockingham next week on the 20th March, so looking forward to that.

No mate
Was a audisrs day
Bargain, paid £75 for morning OPL and ended up going out all afternoon also for free!
Took my <beep> bucket Audi TT I bought for £1,375 and I'm amazed nothing broke and the brakes held up!
Went out as PAX with Nige in the Heff and did not like hurtling past the wall at 140mph !!!
Totally unforgiving if you lose it there.
