R3SP3CT to ur wheels dude, but all I can think of is my parents driving around at 25mph scaring the cr4p out of me with their bad driving.

In the event that there might still be some interest in the topic originally posted, here's my 2p :-
Powerwise, the B7 has more oomph, but as we all know there seems to be very few out there which actually make the 414bhp claimed by Audi, whereas the B5 will give you 380bhp all day from stock and loads more torque.
I thought the look of the B7 would grow on me, but I still prefer the more planted look and classic lines of the B5.
The unmistakable rumble of the V8 powerplant is intoxicating but the V6 doesn't sound half bad either, both in either stock or Milltek form.
The B5, being a twin turbo, is clearly more tunable than the B7 and a simple remap from MRC (or any other reputable tuner) will quickly get you beyond the 420bhp mark and even more torque. Bigger turbos and intercoolers will of course take you way beyond... The only way of getting anything like this from the B7 is by spending a shedload (£11k+?) on the likes of supercharging.
As for handling, the B7 is far more capable in stock comparison, but the B5 is easily sorted by the likes of some H&R or KW coilovers and ARBs.
The brakes, Audi finally got this right on the B7 (well, on the C5 RS6 actually - very similar setup). The B5 brakes, although considerably better than the B5 S4, are pants. The B7 front brake setup is a popular upgrade for B5 owners.
So is the new RS4 as good as the old one? Not by a long way, IMHO.
You can now pick up a 2006 B7 model for sub £30k. You might spend another £2k on a performance exhaust and a remap and push towards 450bhp, or they might have already been done (and command a small premium). But you'll still find a nice low mileage B5 for around the £20k mark. Even if it's unmodded, another £5k will get you all the mods I mentioned above to give the improved levels of handling and performance.
Finally, the B5 is a rare icon, produced in limited numbers, in avant form only. You don't quite find a B7 RS4 on every street corner, but there's a lot about and they come in every flavour (saloon, avant, cabriolet).
I know which I'd rather have![]()
