Autobahns for beginners
Re: Autobahns for beginners
My advice if you are gonna travel up to 150mph is to actually get a feel for how long it takes to slow down from that speed.
The first time I went on the autobahn I nearly shat myself, I saw some old boy pull out to overtake a caravan way ahead of me, thought I had loads of time, foot on brake slowing down... slowing down... slowing down, OH SHT I'M GONNA REAR END THIS FOOL.
Other than that, be ultra careful and expect that people will pull out on you, getting to 150 is incredibly frustrating on most parts of the Autobahn and you will find yourself up and down between 80-120 most of the time.
I've probably done more than 50k miles around Europe and honestly the Autobahn is a novelty that wears thin really quick. Personally I prefer the French tolls better roads, more lanes and less traffic.

Which part is that then?D_K wrote:the belgium straights ... thats where its at
I used to fly through Belgium on my way to NL from Calais. Did that on every occasion until I got slapped with a $300 euro fine and got escorted to the fkin cash point. Midnight robbery. Still that works out to be about $20 each way so not too bad I guess
I have to say though he was the nicest copper I've ever known. He didn't lecture me at all and was thoroughly nice. In comparison I feel like I'm getting verbally abused whenever I've been stopped in the UK.

We drove through France over the summer and I was very surprised at how many French drivers were travelling well in excess of the speed limit. I thought they were really strict with regards to speeding offences but no one seemed to be paying much attention.givemeRS4 wrote:Personally I prefer the French tolls better roads, more lanes and less traffic.
