Budget
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Budget
PetrolDave - your plate refers back to a record which will show that the car is under 3 years old and therefore doesn't require a current MoT certificate.

So, those of us with RS6 are currently in band F paying £210 a year. Will our cars go from band F to band M retrospectively, or does this only apply to cars built after March 06?
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Budget
Dave,
the reg itself doesn't matter. The vehicle details will be brought up on their screen which includes date of registration, and the MoT field indicates one is not required.
Even the post office can get this info. I MoT'd and immediately afterwards taxed my porker on Tuesday. The lady could see the Mot had been done (even though it was only 15 minutes before), and did not need my insurance either although she took it to verify it matched what was on her screen.
There is no longer a form to fill out either - they simply scan a bar code on the reg document. I usually renew on line so didn't realise all this lot had changed.
Now back to this being tugged by a copper in a patrol car. I used to go out with a copper, and so was tugged in a granada, but never a patrol car

Yes - this is the nasty sting in the budget that most budget commentators have missed.GardinerG wrote:So, those of us with RS6 are currently in band F paying £210 a year. Will our cars go from band F to band M retrospectively, or does this only apply to cars built after March 06?
In 2009/10 your annual VED will be £440 per year and in 2010/2011 it will be £455.

Erm no he is not - if you read the actual text and some budget analysts are now realising this.MarkB wrote:You are safeGardinerG wrote:So, those of us with RS6 are currently in band F paying £210 a year. If you read page 121 section A.97 you willl see that this paragraph catches all cars registered after 1 March 2001.MarkB wrote:I think you are wrong (for a 2003 car)scillyisles wrote:Yes - this is the nasty sting in the budget that most budget commentators have missed.GardinerG wrote:So, those of us with RS6 are currently in band F paying £210 a year. So under the new rules due to take effect from 2009 the Rs6 will move to Band M and will therefore attract the VED rates that I stated. This typre of retrospective taxation is typical of this government and is very cynical.

I still think that's unclear but worrying
A.97 With effect from 1 April 2009, and as set out in Table 8a, VED for cars, registered on or
after 1 March 2001, will be reformed to include six new bands. From 1 April 2010, a new first
year VED rate will be introduced. With effect from 1 April 2009, and as set out in Table 8b, the
lower rate of VED for cars and light good vehicles registered before 2001 is frozen and the
higher rate will rise by £15. With effect from 1 April 2009, the VED rate for light goods vehicles
registered after 2001 will rise by £15. With effect from 1 April 2010, the VED rate for cars and
light goods vehicles registered before 2001 will be increased in line with indexation. (35)

The BBC seems to have finally cottoned onto this and this table http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7293011.stm expresses what is happening better. All cars registered after 1 March 2001 have a C02 figure on their V5 registration document and this figure will be used when the VED system is reformed in 2009. I do not know the actual figures for an RS6 but my guess would be that it is over 255 g C02/km which puts it in Band M in the new system.
