That is a piss poor show .... what I tend to do is put a dummy plate over my real ones when at any show/track day for this very reason plus it looks pretty cool as they were the original showroom RS4 plates.....

I run a consumer magazine (Kit~Car Magazine), it is usually the done thing to get the owners permission when we write about someones car, the only time you may see a number of cars with out the owners permission would normally be in a photogarph taken at say a show/track day etc..
This is a grey area though as when we want to expose say a dubious tradesmen in our industry, we dont need the owners permission, we just need to be factual.
I must admit this does seem a bit naughty though, from the sounds of editorial, Audi Driver are really giving to much information about the cars that attended the event (I havent seen the content of the editorial), and it would be ethical to have made sure the owners were happy about that fact. Unfortunatly there isnt alot you can do, unless you want to go on the along the line of hiring a solicitor, other then that there are media bodies you could complain to, but I would'nt hold your breath.

There was one guy who asked for his name to be removed but it was printed, allthough all this was done via John Robins.

This is a bit of a PITA, but not a lot we can do about it now.
This happened to me before at a Club GTI rolling road with my old A3. I didn't bother to write down my reg number on the form and stood in front of the number plate when they took a photo of me and the car. Job done IIRC.

Chaps, a busy schedule, laziness and usually no issues from owners lets me publish whatever is on my cameras memory.

If anyone in my pics/article wants me to remove a registration, please email me, I have no problems accomodating any wishes on masking out plates.
