Re: Nostalgia attack, can buy back my favourite car I sold
Balls, I now own 4 cars. Sadly she is in a shadow of the condition that I sold her. Not kept properly fixed up by a specialist and to me see seems driven in to the ground a tad.
Engine is farked as expected, I was staying off turbo due to it being farked but hit 3k rpm a couple of times despite trying to stay below just driving normally and bang bang bang and no go at that rpm. Struggling to idle, no oil in it (went and grabbed a litre before going out). Wheels are pretty battered, paintwork needs a LOT of love, bootlid release broken, touchscreen on radio not really working, defi gauges partially not working/buggered, the 4 "new" eagles tyres are almost all heavily worn, ciggie burns in a few bits of the interior and seats tired, custom brakes feeling wooden and appear to be binding a touch, rear diff possibly fighting a bit on full locks, a million and one other things.
You know what, I don't care. It is going to take many, many hours of work for me to restore her but there is just something about that car. even madam went mildly weak at the knees at the look of the car and thought she was gourgeous even in the unwashed, scratched up state. Paid 2.6k which I honestly think was high but there is just too much of a connection there and the seller knew it.

Re: Nostalgia attack, can buy back my favourite car I sold
Good luck with that as I have no idea how to play! Get me drunk and take my money, but no rapey rapey thanks.
Worst case if I parted the car out I could prob get back around 2k on a very good day so not the end of the world. Guesstimating around 7-8k should get her back to pretty spiffy running order including a 2.5 closed deck block skimmed out to 2.6-7 with beefed internals. Will see how the gearbox is later as couldn't really tell much today.
Picking her up on Saturday night to do a stealth run home with her as sorned and will be praying that the engine holds out!

Actually logged on just to see what happened with this, love car related happy endings, I still have hope that one day my cherished S8 will turn up after it was nicked, I imagine I would sort of feel the same with the return of a past car. Might be a bit tatty, but you can now give it the love it deserves.

Faye wanted to buy our old Imola S3 back a year or so ago but no chance, it just wouldn't be the same. Hope it turns out to be as good a car as it was for you stretch. Now, did you find that pube?

Re: Nostalgia attack, can buy back my favourite car I sold
The other day I HPI'd the reg of the '85 Ford Onion 1.6i Ghia I had when I was 18. It was battered then, so I was convinced it would have been scrapped, but it's still on the road! If you are bored, it can be a laugh to use the free HPI checks to see if your old cars are still on the road. The onion was the only one I could remember the plate from, though.
I'm liking the sound of "Scooby: The Resurrection". Will be following with interest. Maybe the engine that's in it is salvageable? Not worth getting it stripped down first? If it's just little ends then maybe the cylinders are OK?

Nope but I had lunch with 4 beautiful women, all dressed for the weather, 3 of which were single and well-breastedchunky79 wrote:Now, did you find that pube?
The car is a state currently, can't describe it any other way. The guy had his brother in law working on the car (or not so much) and it shows sadly, the guy shouldn't have been let near it imo. No receipts whatsoever for any work done to the car over the last 4.5 years, all cash in hand.
I honestly don't know if any real work has been done on her at all but she has come back home and I will make her right again. Part of me is kicking myself but the other half is really happy. Couldn't really sleep due to a million things swimming around my noggin regarding what to start on first....
The best thing is that I got in to Imprezas before they became popular/common, sold Fluffy just at the time where chavs were managing to buy the really <beep> versions out there, slap stickers on them and hoon around. In this area at least, seems that all the chavs have either blown them up or have totalled them so I virtually never see any classics and certainly none that look like she did/will do again.
Madam commented on how light the doors, bonnet and boot were compared to her S3. Yes, well they are made out of pig iron, these are made out of bacofoil, composites and duct tape
Shopp, going to get her looked at BUT, the engine originally developed mild piston slap on cylinder 3 (really, really common) and was bored out to about 2.3L by David Hendry with Omega and APR hardware sprinkled throughout. I don't believe it is a closed deck block in there so no chance, there isn't enough left to safely scape out! The idea of a stroked 2.5 closed deck appeals to me so unless I can get the engine working well enough to tide me over ()no chance, will want to go flat out in her or nothing at all), she will sit, get everything else done on her that I can, then get the engine down the line.

Balls, shows how much I have forgotten, closed deck blocks don't exist in a 2.5l
. Brought forward picking her up to Thursday night and am dropping her at the tuners on Friday morning. Have asked them to put a few hours in to picking her apart and finding out just how farked she is.....

Sounds like a good plan. Before diving in, you need to know how deep the water is.
What's the advantage of the closed deck block? Better structural integrity? Can the cylinders be sleeved?

Yep, it's all about integrity:
Open Semi-closed Closed 2.2l Legacy block by the look of it 99.99% certain that the current deck is fully open and not sleeved but yes, you can sleeve the EJ20 I seem to remember. I just don't think that there is enough material left in that already bored out block to feel happy with sleeving.
