Hahaha I followed one down the A422 across MK several months back which which was hogging the outside lane, wasn't being driven very fast, maybe they were actually trying?! :s4addict:

I mugged them out of a roundabout in a wall of V8 second-gear meaty goodness and showed them two f*ck-off Milltek s ....

Don't knock them too much - throw in some country lanes and you could be surprised.
I've err "borrowed" my wifes one and took it on an airfield trackday and it surprised me just what kind of machinery it could keep up with even fwd and down on power.
Maybe it's the locking diff on ours but I found it so chuckable - it seemed to respond better to being driven like a hooligan. Barrel into corner, stamp on brakes, hard steering lock, off brakes and stamp on throttle and drive it out to catch the rear end.

Sounds like my 205!

Although actually "stamp on the brakes and steer hard" hammering into a corner and you'll be going backwards before you know it......

Thats half the fun ;)
I took out a customer who insisted that FWD were dull as they didn't oversteer.
"O... K..." Says I. "What about this?"
Granted, the following corners were not pretty or controllable but it did make him go quite a unique shade.

I'm still not that great on FWD - it's too anti what I've been tought and learnt. My instincts when the back steps out is to apply opposite lock and balance the throttle. With FWD you are generally better off steering where you want to go and burying the throttle. Makes for some quite entertaining moments :)
(obviously not with swimbo anywhere near the car... )

That's not the best... My record for passenger vomiting is 2 on the same day in the 211. Fortunately both just after getting out the car!

Mini Cooper S 2008>

Post by ROY » Tue Feb 26, 2013 3:00 pm

Just had the car in at Mini dealer in Rochdale who have confirmed my suspicions on the clutch
ITS WORN OUT NEEDS REPLACING
At 20K that's ridiculous on a 59 Plate
Well they said it is a cooper it's very powerful and under a lot of strain
Don't talk <beep> I said my RS4 had 70k on the clock and the clutch was fine and that had a damn sight more poke than this shopping trolley

Anyway Mini Shrewsbury where I bought it from will not authorise the repair at Mini Rochdale because its a wear and tear item so its got to go back to em
FFS

Fault I noticed was very high /stiff pedal with judder in first

Checked some forums out and it looks like its a common thing , clutches last about 20K poss £1300 if dual mass flywheel is req
Double OMG

Did think that when you said you had bought one, mini's are poor in many ways, sell it quick and move on

Mini Cooper S 2008>

Nice one trups
Done a lot if sorting on Mrs mini
Steering was all over the place so much so that i would have classed it as dangerous
Replaced the lower wishbone bushes that were fubar which made a big difference but it was still pulling heavily to the right on occasion
Further inspection and swapping about of wheels highlighted a poorly re-furbed o/s front wheel (damn thing had a flat spot on the rim and a flat spot across the tread on the tyre
Swapped the offending wheel to the back for now.
Took the car back to the garage for a clutch inspection and after driving another cooper S with 2k miles it appears they all drive with a weird clutch pedal feel so left with assurances from the dealer if I'm still unhappy they with throw another clutch in.
Bit of a pain taking it to the garage though 200 mile round trip -FFS in a mini crickey the seats are so hard and uncomfortable - i almost got piles.

Next job on the mini will be a OCC to eliminate carbon build up minis suffer really bad - guys on the minitorque forum are adding twinn pil catch cans with some degree of success. You should see the crap that drains out after 500miles.

Getting sick of this A6 Tdi now - the pleasure of driving has all gone
2 weeks to go for the M5, should be taking delivery same time as you Trups.

Paulrs4 has a rather fast Cooper S, so fast the slicks he was running damaged the wheel bearings. Good effort ;)
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
