Fuel prices

Post by stevo55 » Sun Jun 26, 2022 9:41 am

Topic that is close to everyone’s minds right now am sure-how is everyone coping/dealing with this? Most on here will be driving thirsty cars and if you’re a C6 RS6 owner I feel your pain….I can remember the average 16 mpg on my old one

I’m guessing the easy answer is ‘runaround car’ that you use as a day to day but it’s not that simple for everyone. Buying one now will only net out further down the road and also when fuel prices come back down (I refuse to believe any Govt will be able to get away with inflated prices medium to long term to force people into EV’s).
From my end I already have a very boring but very efficient BM 525d and get 600 - 750 miles per tank which is perfect. Current performance car (E63S estate) is scarily thirsty (and scary to drive as well) and the Defender weighs so much it just guzzles (1/4 tank was around £70 the other day).
Buying an EV (lots of pressure on to do that now let’s face it) isn’t that simple and for car enthusiasts the range of ‘decent’ EV’s is very limited and very expensive. Recently seen schemes that are very similar to ‘cycle to work’ whereby you pay part of your salary and get a big discount off of EV’s. Anyone tried that yet (obviously not everyone is employed/has a Ltd Company etc)?

Brimmed my C5 yesterday with Momentum, 71.52 litres cost me £143.68....so, the dreaded day has arrived for me, over £2 per litre
On the subject of Momentum, I've heard from a very good source that Tesco will no longer be supplying it from September this year. Bad news for those of us that are running MRC tunes that are mapped for Tesco's finest...

Oh poop. That's what mine was mapped on ! The alternative is V-Power, but that's considerably more expensive and I don't believe is quite as combustable. Full of cleaning additives though....

So I’ve run that through ‘friend of a friend’ who would be very well placed to have knowledge of this-stated today that there are NO plans to shelve M99 currently.

Reassuring to read Stevo. I did hear it from the cashier when I was grumbling about the price though; she would know surely? Maybe Tesco are going on a store by store decision and I've lucked out in my area..... :boohoo:

I wouldn’t pay that much heed to the cashier who will be filled with ‘stock room rumours’-source I got hold of through a third party is head office involved in Tesco fuel-I asked if M99 was being shelved in Sept this year and it came back with ‘no plans to do that’ basically.
Just wish it was cheaper!

Tesco will be making a good profit from Momentum, so why stop selling it?
Their volumes must surely have increased because with the arrival of E10 for 95RON many more drivers are choosing E5 which means basically Momentum (or equivalent).

I recall not so long ago that when buying Momentum at our local (very large and busy) Tesco I'd often have to wait while the pump went through a "vapour recovery" cycle as it hadn't been used in a while. It was only about 1 pump in 4 that had it so you had to choose the right lane too!
That never happens now and also every pump has it.
