Re: Small number plates
If I was a thief, You 2 displaying your number plates you both would be a perfect targets. I could find out where you lived via your plates then I'd bring my own clone plates, simply do a quick change over and cops wouldn't have a clue. Excellent job to the both of you. Come on lads get a grip and at least edit your pictures a little bit.

Re: Small number plates
Has this ever happened ever? People seem to think it's really obvious that you should hide your plates so thieves don't get them, but what information do you really think a plate holds? My reg is SW65 JZK... can you even find my postcode from that? Thieves aren't likely to be travelling the country to clone a car anyway, so should I be blurring my plates while I drive around too? What about photos other people take of my car, if it gets stolen do I blame them?Eddie555 wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2017 9:01 pmIf I was a thief, You 2 displaying your number plates you both would be a perfect targets. Re: Small number plates
Old school way used to be that a friendly criminal car dealer would spin your plates legitimately through their system and get your address from there. Now we're also seeing owners getting followed home and also owners getting 'lumps' (gps tracker) placed on their car by gangs to get a home address or where the car is kept.MartayMcFly wrote:Has this ever happened ever? Or simply when you buy your new plates on eBay and have them sent to your home addressstevo55 wrote:Old school way used to be that a friendly criminal car dealer would spin your plates legitimately through their system and get your address from there. This. Listen to the person who has suffered first handEddie555 wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2017 9:01 pmIf I was a thief, You 2 displaying your number plates you both would be a perfect targets. My day job concerns car data, VRNs, VINs, MVRIS codes, build dates, part numbers. There are multiple ways for crim' to obtain your home address. The simplest and easiest two methods are the DVLA, or your insurance policy: The DVLA give out addresses upon request (to private car clamping / parking companies etc). And your insurance details are held centrally on the MID (motor insurers database).
Simple example - guy another Audi forum has his five-digit private plate as his username. Advertises a set of OEM 20s and says they are taking up space in his shed. 24 hours later they have been nicked from his shed. Coincidence? I think not. He hadn't given out his address for any viewings etc.
Refrain from posting pics with your plate. And definitely do not type it by text so google brings it up.

Re: Small number plates
Ok, so do I drive my car or keep it locked up so no-one can see it.....it's an insured metal box with a wheel in each corner, yes it's a hassle if it's stolen yes it's annoying getting paid out but if you own a car it's to be driven! Trust me too I had mine stolen off my drive, they didn't even disturb my dogs who notice a fox on the drive. More important things to worry about my friend but genuinely grateful for your insight and concern.Ian_C wrote:This.
