B7 RS4 vs Focus RS advice required

Post by TimDogg » Fri Apr 14, 2017 2:29 pm

Guys,

Might have the option to add a MY10 Focus RS Mk2 to the stable, it's a small stable though - am I going to gain anything from having a Focus RS alongside the B7 or will I just be disappointed?

Interestingly I'm running a 200 bhp diesel Seat Leon FR at the moment which is pretty rapid.

Anyone got any advice of ownership on the Focus?

Many thanks

Yours is a saloon isn't it? So assuming you don't need the space, etc for pram's or other large items. I had an Avant from r that reason following a saloon. I went to go and look at the Focus with a view to placing an order, however I couldn't get the pram in the boot so it was a no go.

I ended up going for a CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake which is basically the same as an A45 AMG to all intense and purposes. It's a great car and pretty rapid initially, but it doesn't not feel as connected as the B7, but then it's predominantly a FWD car until it needs its Haldex or if it's in sports handling mode, when apparently it locks in 50:50 AWD.

I do think the Focus will drive better TBH. Not sure it will be better than your B7 though but they do seem to do similar jobs really.

I wonder if you can get a good extended test drive in one first.

Marc,

Mine is a saloon, yes so I don't need the space. The guy selling is moving abroad and it's a nice example of one - I've always thought about getting one but now worry that it might be a little dated and remond me too much of the ST24 and ST220 (not that that would be a bad thing I guess) - Thanks for the solid advice.

I do have an admission to make though Tim... I completely missed the MY10 MK2 part of your post. Obviously I now need to make an optician appointment.

I guess With that in mind, the B7 and MK2 are going to be completely different. The MK2 has great residuals with a noise only a 5 pot engine can make.

As you're buying my private, I'm sure you can get a decent test drive out of it and that should tell you one way or the other. If you've got the option to keep the B7 as well it sounds like it could be a great addition to your garage. Either way, if it ends up being short lived, you'll likely not lose too much money on it.

Thanks Marc, that's my thought process - buy it, run it for a while a see if it's a keeper. Not sure if I'm a fan of the newer Focus tbh.

I don't like the rear lights. Looks like someone threw them at the car and they went splat.
